Pole purchasing anxiety

I've been poling for about 2 months and since my 1st class at my local studio like everyone else I was hooked. My love for pole has literally become an obsession and I really want to break out the cash and buy my own pole. As I lurk over the SV Pole page I tend to get anxiety as I actually contemplate about buying one. Am I too old? Will I have energy to train after a longs day of work? Will my kids get in the way and think I'm crazy? Am I going through a mid-life crisis? Will o ditch the studio because the pole is now in my house? Will my house chores take a back seat because I'm obsessed with poking? Will I injure myself? Am I too old for this? (That question comes from friends that I think are bordering on hate) Ugh! The brain has no "off" switch!

You are never too old to pole! I am 44 and my sister got into it 2 years ago when she was 48. There are quite a few ladies on here that are older. 1. You will not ditch your studio because that is where you will learn. Your home pole will be supplemental. 2. You will be amazed at the energy you find (and will gain) 3. So what if you are going through a midlife...at least it is something FUN and GOOD FOR YOU. You could be going on a spending/plastic surgery/drinking or drugs binge. 4. At first the chores will take a side however you will soon learn that the environment where you pole will become sacred and you will want to keep it clean. HOWEVER...be prepared to redecorate. And oh, yeah, glitter. Glitter will be everywhere within the next year and you will want to TRY to get rid of it. It won't ever go away. 5. Yes, at some point you will injure yourself. I don't know a single person who exercises that has never hurt themselves. And it will be hard for you because you will want to push and may not have the proper engagement or conditioning. This is where patience comes from. I highly suggest getting the lessons here to supplement your studio training as there is a lot of really good info on conditioning and performing the moves in a safe manner. 6. Yes, you are crazy. We all are. And yes your kids will get in the way and so will your animals. But we deal. The one great thing about poles is that they really do not lose their value (unless you buy a piece of crap pole to begin). Even in a year if you decided that pole is not for you the ability to get rid of it is high. I would expect to lose shipping costs and maybe $50-100 depending on how well it is taken care of but you will be able to sell it. Welcome to the obsession! Mine is going on 6 years strong!

I totally agree with Chem, you are never too old. I got a pole 3 years ago when I was 46 and taught myself at home as there were no classes here. I love my pole it keeps me happy and sane and I can practice whenever I feel like it. My girls, 8 and 15 think it's great that I can do handstands and inverts etc . Go ahead and get a pole you won't regret it !!

First of all, as has been pointed out. You are never too old. A 62 year old one the masters division of the Internationl Pole Competition this year and she is still going strong. I think Masters if 40 and over. I started in January of this year at the age of 45. I turned 46 this past June. I am addicted and happy about it. My 17 year old son, not so much....but I do what's best for me. Because I want to pole well, I have lost almost 50 pounds through poling, zumba, strength training and pole dancing. It brings out an inner you that you may have lost touch with......join us and begin your journey.
