pole one inch too small!

Okay so after my silly problems with my x-pert pole set up, I have it up BUT...although I thought my ceiling was exactly 108 inches (9 foot) it turns out it's actually 108 and 3/4 inches. Plus it's on a carpet so i have a little extra give equaling to about an inch too big. It says on the instructions that the adjuster rod should be extended no more than 5 inches and i measured how much mine is and it is 6inches. 🙁 So i guess I have to get an extension? I mean the pole feels pretty sturdy. But I don't want to risk damaging it...or my ceiling? It is only ONE INCH over...but you can see it quite obviously, like the adjuster shaft is screwed in but at the bottom of the shaft you can see the rod coming down an inch too much. The thing is I am so short of money at the moment. What do you guys think? If I do have to get an extension, do you guys think it will matter of i leave my pole up till then? It looks so pretty and I'd like to use it as a prop for my dancing, like, just to hold while i dance or walk around and stuff...I always feel better dancing if I have a pole there. Obviously not putting my body weight on it and stuff. But yeah. If its gonna damage the pole/ceiling then I'll just take it down. ETA: well I've answered my own question as to "do i def need an extension" I just tried gingerly putting my own body weight on it in a very tiny tiny carosel...and the whole TOP of the pole slipped about a foot across the ceiling. Guess not as secure as thought hmm. but if i just havr it up for "novelty" use, grinding and the like 😉 until I get my extension that should be fine right? Any advice would be awesome? 🤸

I dont know if even that would be safe? If your pole was to fall it could get seriously damaged and you dont want! I understand how you feel though! Its SO annoying to have to wait! 🙁

It all sounds a bit scary to me. I might be over cautious but I saw a pole go through a window once and it wasn't pretty! Luckily no one got hurt and the pole wasn't damaged, but still a pole is a large and heavy object when it comes down. Maybe visit a nearby playground or the like to get some poleing action in the meantime? How much of a wait are we talking?

🙂 well I gave the x pole peeps a call and they said with one inch over it was absolutely no problem. Apparently the smallest extension possible (100mm) doesnt even fit with the xpert, and the adjuster rod is strong enough to take that amount. I think I will by the second largest extension anyway because its annoying having a small gap where the rod is showing. I think the reason that the pole slipped before is simply because i hadn't tightened it properly. I took it all down and put it up again making sure i did everything correctly and its solid as a rock though. Thanks for the advice though evreyone. Hehe poling on the climbing frames! I never actually thought of doing that! I'm definitely gonna give it a go!

Hi! I just moved and had literally the exact same problem except that mine was an inch and a half too tall and I have the original xpole. If you search the dance poles forum for "shoot! Darnit fiddlesticks poop!" you'll find my thread LOL.Trena posted a picture of her solution to the same problem: a piece of wood slightly larger than th top dome between the dome and ceiling. You don't even have to screw it in! Just a square of plywood between the dome and ceiling will be secure and give you the inch you need without an extension. The only reason I couldn't use that solution was because I didn't have anything thick enough and it was almost 2 inches short. But at an inch, a nce solid piece of board should give you exactly what you need. If you don't have anything like that on hand, the hardware store can cut you a piece to whatever size you want for just a few bucks. Just make sure you measure twice so that you're sure the piece is at least an inch bigger than the dome on all sides (so if it's 1'6" wide, the square is at least 1'7"x1'7") Good luck! It's def cheaper than an extension, and I think it's worth the peace of mind. Check that thread I mentioned for the pic Trena posted. It's a very simple fix.

One of my instructors just bought a nice piece of unstained pine at Lowes, one inch thick, that's smooth and nicely finished and it's just about 2 inches larger than the dome so there is space showing all the way around and it's the same shape of the dome so it looks nice when it's up there. I personally would not recommend using the pole where the adjuster rod is visible. That adjuster cover has been pushed and "bent" on the base of one of our poles when we had that issue at the studio and I felt it was going to damage the threading where it screws in place. That cover will shift if you push against it like that. If the piece of wood doesn't work the 200mm extension is not all that expensive and it works just fine for us. You simply eliminate the 125 mm extension from the set up and replace it with the 200mm. This is very close to the old combination of the 125 plus the 100 so it should work for anyone who needs just that extra amount of height.
