I pole once a week with 5 other girls, we have 1-2 poles and we're all upper intermediate who don't take lessons and we just try to teach ourselves. We're new to pole jamming too (it's been a month or two now) so maybe I don't have the best advice yet, but so far, here are some helpful things I thought I'd share from our limited experience...
So far it has helped us to have a structured plan for the 2 hours we have together. We roughly schedule in advance how we want to divide time doing warm up, conditioning, drills, working on certain moves and try to stick with it. One person is in charge of moving things along to keep everyone focused. No hard feelings if you get yelled at for slacking off 😀 This way you get to accomplish everything you want. One person in charge of the music. Each girl must come prepared and must have picked a few moves she wants to work on, so that it will be easy to trade moves with each other, and it will minimize just sitting around staring at each other. One of us also has an iPad and we video ourselves so we can see where we go wrong and what we need to improve on.
Water is good, yes! For snacks, we've been staying away from too much carbs or anything too heavy because that gets us lazy and sleepy later on. We have carrot sticks, hummus with thin whole wheat crackers, light cheese, mini turkey wraps, salad, strawberries... Cupcakes and ice cream have now been banned! 😀
Anyway, hope that helps. I wish you ladies a very fun and successful pole jam and I'm looking forward to seeing other people's tips for pole jams as well 🌸
