Hi!! I'm a nurse and a lover of pole. I have told a few fellow nurses and it is always curiousity. Do you fellow polers discuss pole with coworkers? Or post pics of your accomplishments on your facebook or twitter? Are you comfortable with the talks and what has been the reaction?

I'm also a nurse & I talk about my love for pole fitness all the time with my coworkers (& doctors). I do post pics on Facebook & of course they see them. For the most part all my coworkers are curious & amazed by how I do the tricks I do. I have something I'm passionate about & I'm going to share with everybody :).
This is a really interesting thing topic for me at the moment because I have always been open about my doing and teaching pole fitness until recently :(. I have started a new career path into being an EMT/Fire Fighter, unfornatully because of certain events I know need to be an in the closet poler until after I have finished the hiring process and been hired. The Chief is ultra conservative and it was recommended that that I don't mention anything about pole until after I am hired. I have made my facebook ultra private and had to change my profile and cover photo around so he would not find out, I am sure in time it will be found out due to were I work currently. I have also started to see how being a pole instructor in a male dominated world can be a hard thing to do. I am already hearing the negative comments coming from certain members of the department, so I am actually debating about keeping quiet about it.
Monicaspoleworld, that's unfortunate. I understand the feeling of being a closeted poler. I've only been able to share the joys of pole dancing with my close friends (mainly female) and very select family members. I found that the best way to discuss pole dancing with a skeptic is to share pole-positive videos and blogs.
@Monicaspoleworld. That is so crazy and unfortunate that your job is at risk over something is yours and your alone. The stigma is out still there but people should open up their eyes

That's a tough one Monica! To tell or not to tell is always an interesting discussion! I have the luxury of working for myself so I tell everyone! I even told one of the waitresses at our favorite sushi place. It was interesting because she told me, her only reference for pole was what she has seen on TV. There was no mention of strippers at all or pole being sexy at all!

I am an attorney and I am very secretive about it except within my own firm where I am the lead partner. I ran for judge a few years ago before I discovered pole and everyone keeps asking me if I will run again. I refuse to run because I don't want to give up my love of pole. So sad that I have to choose but that is the way life is.....it would be an outright scandal if I won (unlikely) and continued poling. :(
@palacae...that's too bad... one shouldn't have anything to do with another...

I'm a nurse and at my main job where I am closer to my coworkers I have told just about everyone and I make them watch videos of new tricks I learned. So far three other girls have come to class with me. I've told my parents and they seemed okay with it, just asked a question or two but nothing negative. I just told a bunch of old friends a few days ago at a party and they all seemed a little freaked out and no one seemed to know where to look--I'll have to work on that group. Apparently all they can think of is stripper and since I'm 44 years old they probably didn't know what to think. I'm new to pole but I LOVE it and I figure if I've told my parents I can tell just about anyone. I think the only way to get people to understand that pole doesn't necessarily equal stripping is by talking about it. I'm not on social media at all but if I were I probably would have to be careful because at least one of my jobs would probably be an issue.
