Does anyone keep a pole diary? I write down all the moves I can do, ones which I am in the process of trying out notes and tips and combo's and stuff. I also find it helpful to print off pics of the move to go in my little book. Anyone else find this helpful? I am such a pole geek hahaha!! 🐱 🐱

Hey! I actually am just trying to start one! I haven't got everything down that I'd like, such as what moves are or look like and such, but usually I know what I mean when I'm looking at it! 🥂 I'm finding it hard, though. If you are trying to come up with combos...well, I seem to be having a really hard time with it! Is there any way that you can go out, bring your little book, and think of things? Does anyone do that? Or do you require your pole in order to think of things, either ones that work or ones that don't? Aside from that...what kinds of things do you put in your journal? 🤸 ☀️

Vicki- I write down tons of stuff. I made a full notebook page to "Beginner Moves", one to "Intermediate", and one to "Advanced." I have to admit that I borrowed my original list from Karol Helms' pole move videos and have since modified them. Whenever I get a move from any of the lists, I put a check next to it. If I kinda get a move or only get it on one side, I'll put "1/2" next to it to remind me that I could get it soon if I keep practicing. This way, if I have a high energy day, I can practice moves from the "advanced" list but if I feel tired it also can remind me of cool moves that I've already done but haven't used in awhile. Also, I take pencil and paper to pole and exotic class at the studio and write down the routine. Oh, and I watch youtube videos of really great dancers and jot down any interesting moves/combos they do so that I could work on that too! I couldn't pole or dance nearly as well without my lists 'cause my memory is bad. I could go to pole class, learn a great move and when my husband asks what I learned my mind is like "uhhhh...." This way, I stay on track, remember what I learned, and know what I want to work towards!
They come to me wherever really and I have to remember and write em down when I get home, I do sometimes just sit and think, usually after some amazing inspiration from youtube and I also write down combo's seen on you tube. I don't know if these are helpful but vertical dance website has downloadable pages of moves from beginner to advanced. http://www.verticaldance.com/beginnerpoledancemoves.htm I also save a lot of pole move pics from wikipole or facebook pages and have em either on my computer in a pole folder or print em out. When you write down every move you can do its actually quite impressive!! 🐱 🐱
I have a journal that is nearly filled with things I know, things I'd like to try, things that go well/flow well with other things, etc. The transitions into/out of pages really are helpful, and I am constantly adding to them as new thoughts pop into my head, or I see things and think "oh heck yeah, that's cool." I also write down strength-building exercises and variations of such because I find they are great reminders, too. Last night I couldn't sleep--when that happens I've found that, for whatever reason, I start to come up with pole moves or combos I'd like to try. So I take my pole journal to bed with me every night.
I keep a small journal with moves I want to try and tips on achieving them. I never tried printing the pictures that is such a good idea, but i'll need to buy a bigger journal. I've been just drawing stick figures beside different pole moves so I can remember 😂 LOl it looks so bad if anybody ever saw it they laugh so hard at me. Side Note thanks for the inspiration I'm going to Walmart to night to buy a bigger journal so documenting pole moves, pole goals, and pole pictures on this pole journey will be easier 🥂 🥂

Then I'm halfway to having something choreographed (well, as much as I ever choreograph anything, lol)!! 🤸

just started my pole journal. right now just using a simple notebook. trying to find a good way to organize it. kinda wish i had started it along time ago so wouldnt have to rack my brain to think of all the moves transitions.. went thru aome vids to get ideas. guess it will just take a little time. great idea. 🥂
Mine is a bit of a mess full of notes and piccies like a scrap book, its a bit untidy but its my bible!!

Aww me too! I constantly imagine myself doing incredibly difficult things I can't even do yet 😛 But then I go to class, start inverting and forget mid-air what I was going to do lol. I usually put a sticky note with moves I want to practice on my bag when I go to pole.
Thats a good idea, I had two ideas yesterday, thought I would share. I thought about doing jade legs with an arched back and both hands on the pole like in crescent moon, I call it jade arch, can't do it though 🙁 also I thought about trying the Allegra from a side climb, tried it but couldn't get there. So they have gone in my diary for now. 🐱 🐱
After reading this it sounds like such a good idea, I know I've seen yours vic! Maybe I should start one. I've always filmed all my practices so I can see where I am and that's kind of become my diary but it's not the same as giving yourself something to aim towards is it? I think I'm going to go buy a pretty book and start my own 😀 x

Haaaa i thought i was the only one,iv been doing this for YEARS! im terrible. i can be walking down the street and end up totally blanking people i know by accident becuase im in a little pole day dream.! Anyways im off to my pole studio now, time for more pole trance like states on the journey there! 🙂
These are great ideas.... think I will borrow them! Helps you track your progress and set goals. BTW: I now listen to music differently too.... I hear a really good song and think of pole moves that would go great with it! 😉
