Pole Bruises

Hello everybody! I haven't started poling as yet but I'm really interested in doing it once I get my own house and a job (I'm in university now) and I come on this site often to collect information and advice. Anyhoo! I know I should be expecting some bruises, especially on my wrist and thighs (and I love my legs!! But I still want to learn!). But my special place too????? I read somewhere, maybe it was here, that someone bruised her special place while poling. Is this common? If so how bad is it? Does it affect...you know... 😳 ...the nightly activity? I want to know because if my boyfriend ever hears that he cant get any because of the pole, he might just take it down and out while I'm asleep lol. I laugh now but its serious. I love this site by the way, you guys are really friendly and supportive and once I start my poling journey I want to tell you about it 😀 And Veena is a ballerina on a pole = awesome

Someone might have bruised that, but you shouldn't because you shouldn't be jumping into anything or banging your crotch hard on the pole with really any move, so you shouldn't worry too much about this. Wrist shouldn't bruise much either because it shouldn't be colapsing around the pole. Thighs yeah, you'll most likely bruise there.

Thank you! Ok so I'll be careful when I start...I thought bruising of the wrist was a pole dancer's trademark??? But not complaining!!

Nah... you may experience a little bit of pole burn on the wrists at first, when you are first learning spins. That's only because you're trying to get the momentum vs. grip thing down. But you'll catch on pretty quick! It's also pretty common to bruise in the thighs, but I, personally, never bruised my sensitive areas, or even came close. If anything, "nightly activities" were enhanced by the new-found strength in the legs... lol... 😳 🙊 🙄 Some bruising will occur on your climbing foot as well, but you only need to work through that, and it won't be much of an issue anymore. Good luck in your pole journey! 😀

I managed to bruise my... delicate area while I was learning the inverted thigh hold 😳 It wasn't really that bad though. Definitely not on the scale of the big, black and blue ones I sometimes get on my thighs! I find I rarely get bruises once I've got a spin or trick down but, while I'm learning something, I tend to come up all sorts of interesting colours. My thighs and calves tend to cop it most often but I've had some crackers on my upper arms and ribs before too. Truth be told, they bother my boyfriend more than me - he worries people will think he gave me them!

I have managed to bruise my nether regions learning the wrist seat and the tail spin, and it was not actually doing those tricks but coming out of them and back up to the pole. It was no worse than the bruising I get from going on a long bike ride and certainly did not keep me from any other activities!

Yeah the inverted thigh hold (if I'm thinking about the right thing) looks like it could affect that. But I'll be careful. I don't know the tail spin and wrist seat 😳 so ima look that up now. I'm pretty excited to do pole dancing because its so interesting, there are so many different aspects to it and you can make it whatever you want! (getting excited again) 😂 . Im a black girl so Im hoping that that means the bruises wont show up too much, I dont want people to think he did it to me 😨 . Anyhoo, if they do show Ill just wear clothes to cover them til they go away!! But nightly activities cannot be interrupted! Thanks guys for helping me 🙂

Haven't had problem in the "she" area, haha However, bruising is a part of poling for most, if not, all polers; especially when learning new spins/tricks. I've had some minor to what could be heavy bruising, skin burn, etc. At first, I was like OMG no one can see this! But due to weather, was not able to wear clothing to cover it. I learned to wear them proudly as eventually the result is an accomplishment. There was a time or two where my hubby and I both realized people would wonder and/or assume how I got them, but oh well 🙂 Once you start poling, and start having fun, you might even enjoy them. 🙂

As in, I hear they are your badges of honour 🫡 and man I just cant wait, even if it means that. And I will show them off!!! But strangers on the road, I dunno...dont want my bf to be put in a bad light. But like you said, the weather doesnt allow covering up. I live in JA wheres its summer all year around and I sweat easily. Hm, something I have to think about. Still excited, even though its a couple years away 🙁

"Arnica Montana" is a homeopathic remedy for bruising that may be taken topically or orally. I use it and prefer the topical cream. It totally works! especially if you apply it as soon as possible... after you are done poling, of course. I buy mine from Whole Foods- I think you can find it in any store that sells pharmaceuticals. also- one of the last times i did a wrist sit, when i opened my legs, my weight shifted weird and the pole kinda "got familiar" with my "kitty". i did not bruise, (i immediately "aborted mission") but i can see the possibility of a bruise happening there... excuse my obnoxious use of quotations in this posting... 😀

Found the wrist sit! Yes I can see how it can happen for that too, especially going into it, because theyjumped and then crossed their legs. I couldnt find the tail spin

They have arnica gel at GNC in UES for $2 rather than the branded arnica gel for $7-10. Works the same for me. Oddly I found the reversital microdermastick worked better and faster than arnica. It's not even meant for bruises. 😂 You'll learn control after a while and the bruises will lessen. Though there are bruises you can't avoid like the inner thigh one after the allegra.

Oops. When you said uptown, for some reason I thought you were referring to New York. 😳 GNC is a vitamin/supplement store here in the states. I'm not sure if it's international.

empress, you should look for arnica based creams/gels or for traumeel. i know both are readily available online but i'm not sure what hte shipping options are for jamaica! both are great for bruising-- they are both homeopathic remedies but if you apply them right when you feel a bruise forming, the bruise will be less severe and fade faster.

Yeah, hopefully I can get a couple shipped down. If not, I would have to use MailPac...for a price, you get to use their US address so the people would send it to there (in Miami I think). From there, MailPac will send it down to Jamaica where you can pick it up at one of their offices. But I think the former will be cheaper so I will check it out. Thanks 🙂 Sigh, just got home and having a headache but I really appreciate all this advice.
