I wonder if I could have a handyman attach a pole in my garage on the floor only? My ceilings in there are 14 feet and I don't need one that tall. I was thinking 10 feet since I am almost six feet tall. It would have to be bolted into concrete and Im not sure what all of that calls for. I'm a newbie btw. Thanks for any ideas..

If I had 14 ft to work with, I would USE IT!!! Even if you're not "there yet", you might want that eventually. Oh the glorious first time you tag the ceiling on a 14 ft pole. <3 <3. I don't know how one would go about a permenant floor mount in concrete... Theres always X stages and things....
In order for this to work you will need to sink the base on the pole into the concrete. There is no way bolts into the floor will be able to support the entire torque you will put on the pole. Think about fence posts or flag poles or any type of post....they are all sunk into the ground and stabilized usually with footers or concrete.

Contact Lil Mynx and ask them for help. They sell a drop mount you can put on the ceiling (if you have the correct corrections) that will bring the ceiling connection down then you just get a 10 ft pole and it goes up and down when you want it. Simple, no drilling in the concrete and probably way cheaper.
Camkobo, I had tried to go that route but they told me the drop mount is for commercial use only. She said a home could not withstand it.. That would have been perfect tho and thanks!
I think I will just have to go with one of the stages. If only my 14 ft room was not over concrete!
Gail12, just asked you for your garage ceiling height and now seen this post. X-Pole have a new Competition/Studio base. This was designed for minimum floor impingment and only requires a 6mm (1/4") hole in the floor. In our London Development Studio we use 11 of them on a beautiful oak floor and you do not even see the holes. Basically the base has a pin which locates in the floor hole and stops the pole from slipping. This base used in conjunction with a permanent mount and a Competition/Studio pole will be fine.
