hi yall, id like the opinions of any owners of a PS brass. dont get me wrong i love my LM but i still want to try a brass i hear the grip is like no other. and how has the brass held up?

There are quite a few threads here regarding this and some of them get a little nasty. Speaking from experience, PS brass are very grippy and will over heat if you are doing lots of spins on them. If you plan on more static moves or working on spin mode they are good. I was in a Karol workshop and a girl ripped a huge hunk of skin off the ball of her hand, but I will also say that 2 people were working on the pole and we were doing spin after spin after spin. *For me* brass is too grippy, and I am one who started off with a pink LM. Everybody is different though and my best suggestion is to try to find a studio that might have one for you to try.

infortunately the closest studio is over an hr away! so that prob wont happen :/ lol esp bein home with two kiddies everyday
Do you have the powder coated LM? Have you ever gotten a burn on your hand from working on spins on it? It is not much worse than that BUT if you have a bunch of people on the pole like during a jam it can over heat. But that is for any brass. It is just the thermal properties of the metal. There is a reason that cooking pans have copper bottoms and brass has a good percentage of copper in it.
no ive not had any hand burns and yes i hav the powder LM, it is pretty grippy and i imagine it will b more in the summer! maybe i shud just stick with my LM for a while, i hav got burns on my thighs for sure from it!

Like Chem said every body reacts differently - I have PS brass and have had multiple people using them at the same time and we never had any issues with skin burns. I also have a powder coated Lil Mynx and never had that issue as well. I will also say that I have had grip issues and sweaty hand issues so a pole can NEVER be too grippy for me so who knows LOL
You are so lucky VB! That is the down side of being too grippy. I will also add that I think grip aids were being used on top of brass...maybe.....can't remember for sure.
Just a comment on the skin ripping. I've actually had my skin rip from stainless steel, just from a 1 hour class, doing tons of spins, I developed a huge blister that ripped. Same with my TG x pert. Once the poles are warm, they all grip the skin, forming blisters that can pop. Once you develop cauloses that should stop happening (at least it has for me.) Now as for the PS brass...I really like it. For spins, I think it has a nice smooth feel to it, although sometimes my hand can feel like it gets stuck (but that happened with my TG too.) Stainless is better for spins, so you just have to get used to what grip strength is best for the brass. It does give a little bit of pole burn, but no worse than the TG (I actually have had mega pole burn from a warm stainless too.) Brass does warm up quickly, which is really nice for tricks. It's hard to describe the grip. It is grippy, but not in a "my skin is stuck to it" kind of way. You can still slide down it without your legs feeling like they are ripping off (at least with me, but right now I am super dry; I can tell you more when I start to sweat again.) I guess your skin grips it, but will still move down the pole as you slide as opposed to sticking to it as it would with a grip aid and giving you a mega indian burn. Does that make sense?? Chem - I use grip aids on my brass because I can't sweat right now (corn huskers!!) On that note, if your body sweats, brass might be like fly paper for you! I mentioned it in an earlier thread, I'm stopping my meds in 2 weeks (woot!) Once I start pouring sweat again I can give a better review on uber sweatiness with a brass pole.
Poop! I forgot to mention this! If you do want to invest in a brass pole, you'll notice in my album I have a photo of the potential blemishes that can come on the pole. You asked about scratcehs and stuff. I have not scratched my pole (I tell anyone getting on it "no shoes or jewelry) but it may come with blemishes. I asked PS about this and they said that they get the poles like this and asked their supplier about it. I guess the supplier just said it was becasue brass is so soft. The blemishes are old because they are already dark from a patina. They are only a cosmetic thing, you can't feel them when you are dancing. They are no big deal, but I thought I'd mention it cuz it freaks girls out when they get their pole and it has some blemishes.

Yes the brass poles do have blemishes. They dont come PERFECT like the stainless steel, but it hasnt been a problem. My favorite pole is my platinum stages brass. I love it because i dont have to use grip aids. I have never ripped any skin though, but like mentioned above, everyone is different and will have a different reaction. I really want a 45 mm brass from platinum stages. I have a 50mm that i love, so i think i would be even more in love with the 45mm. ❤️ I just bought my 45mm stainless steel SSA a few weeks ago though, so i might have to hold off, lol
One other thing to note is that as the brass patinas (turns brown) it gets grippier. My pole was much slicker when I first got it. Now that it is getting a patina where I grab it the most it is getting grippier in those spots (and it is still slicker towards the top where I don't grab as often.) I plan on letting my pole patina completely, but most people clean their poles every so often with brasso to take off the patina and give it the gold color again. That will slicken it up again. The patina actually acts to protect the underlying layers of metal (unlike rust which will eat through layers.) When you clean he pole, you are removing the patina layer. The patina is why brass is considered "high maintenence."

Pole finishes are a very personal experience and we all react differently. My grippiness from most grippy to least grippy is 1) stainless steel 2) brass 3) chrome. Even though brass is not my most grippy... I have a platinum stages brass and I LOVE it. I feel that it has a softer feel to it than the other finishes I have used. It also has more flex to it unlike a steel or chrome poles I have used. It gets warmer faster than my other poles, I like that. It has not torn my skin. It has held up very well, I remove hand and neck jewelry when I pole and so far it has not had any scratches or what not from my shoe buckles etc. Wishing you the best as you consider your options. : )
