Plaster Ceilings....

My X-pole is set to arrive tomorrow, and my professor (who used to live in the same house) just pointed out that my gorgeous 10 ft. ceilings are plaster and might not bear the weight of any pressure...Apparantly it is suspended from the rafters, but not connected? My house is from 1875, and my landlords would KILL us if we brought down the ceiling... Any thoughts? We have a big doorway between rooms, but it's only 8 feet or so... I'm thiking that's the best option if I can keep from hitting either of the door frames! 😕

Can't say for sure of course, but having lived in NE for a long time and being familiar with the old house construction I'd say there's a good chance he's right and you will damage the ceiling. Have you tried using a studfinder on the ceiling?
