Today during my stretch routine I started to feel a dull ache in my left hip (the ball and socket). Every time I tried to preform a split stretch the ache increased and I was unable to perform the stretched like normal. This is keeping me from doing other stretches as well. Has anyone experienced this before? And if so, what have you done to remedy it?

was it in the middle splits? for middles, you have to tilt your pelvis like you are sticking your butt out, otherwist your hips can't move correctly and they lock.

Yes it was during the middle splits. But I feel it in the other stretches as well. I've taken some medication and don't feel it so much while I'm in rest. I've tried rotating my hips and the pain felt worse on the joint.
are you stretching all the muscles of your lower body? You should be stretching your gluts, outer hips, hip flexors, inner thigh, quads, calf, etc. My stretching routine for my lower body consists of: Calf (gastronemeous and soleus stretches), hamstrings , side lunges, forward lunges, diamond stretch, seated twists, pigeon pose, side stretches, low back stretches, straddles, etc. When I stretch it takes me a good HOUR to get everything.

Yup to all of the above. I've only been at it for about 2weeks though so I am wondering if I strained it or maybe the change from no acticity to this has caused something to become irritated or inflammed.
just be gentle then. i only do REAL flexibility training once a week. The rest of the days is more gentle stretching
