Over-gripping- can't ever slide DOWN?!!?!

Brand new to pole dancing (er..dancing, period) and I'm having a major problem getting my hands to slide down the pole. Using 50mm brass spinning pole, nothing on my hands. I'll start a spin and there is nothing in this world that will make me slide down that pole so that I can transition on the floor!! My instructor's only advice was to start removing fingers. I can remove 2 fingers without sliding and when I remove a 3rd I come right off. Any other tips?? Is there something I can wear on my hands to help (product or gloves?) HELP!!
