I just set my pole up and bought a month of Veena's lessons. Yay! I went through the warm up and the pole strength lessons. Then, before I passed out from exhaustion, I wanted to try a pole sit... or crucifix... you know, something for beginners that looks easy. Ouch... none of this is easy! I have more respect for all of you every day. ;)

Ouch is right...but you will get it VERY soon, just keep practicing :) It took me about a month to nail those two moves consistently. You CAN do it.
i know when i first did the pole sit i thought omg how do other women do alllll those advanced tricks this hurts ALOT! but ur skin gets used to it believe me! now i can do the tricks i never thought id get when i did my first pole sit

Thanks for the encouragement! I expected this to be hard, but not this hard :p Quick question; what do you do on your rest days? Do you still do some exercises? What exactly am I supposed to avoid on rest days?

Its funny how when you actually start pole dancing how quickly your views on it change. Especially watching videos of it. You go from "Wow, that looks so effortless and pretty" to "OMG, how does she hold on like that while doing that AND spinning?!". You can almost feel the pain coming from the screen cause you know exactly what pressure points are being used and abused. lol. I personally love the abuse. Bruises make me smile and that dull "you worked hard" pain makes me feel alive and totally worth it. what do you do on your rest days? ~ I only have class Fridays & Saturdays; no pole at home. So during the week i didn't really do anything. Recently my teacher really started to really focus on flexibility and splits so now I stretch daily, even if its just like a quick warm up that i remembered from class. If I go to the park where there is a firemans pole I'll climb up it with just my arms or practice just inverting myself. But i never feel i NEED to do this. I do it mainly when i have nothing better to do. If i had a pole at home it would be a whole other story. I'd go until i'm passed out. lol. Do you still do some exercises? ~ Like I said above, depends on motivation. I'll do some split stretching or give a small work out a try. I found a nice app for my IPod that has some good simple workouts. I also have Alethea's floorwork DVD but I have yet to really try it. Some days I just dance around my kitchen while cleaning. lol. Any activity is good activity to me! What exactly am I supposed to avoid on rest days? Try to give serious ache-y parts a break. Listen to your body. Work on only certain areas at a time. I hurt my forearm/wrist doing a V hold and being stubborn i worked on it again the next day. Yeah, don't do that! Your body will let you know what not to do. Push too hard and your body will push back and it sucks.
What do I do on my rest days? Humm it really depends on my mood and/or how busy or non busy my week is. If I'm not doing anything that week, I'll stretch about 20-30 mins, along with doing some core & strength exercises-- reps of sit ups, plow sit ups, bicycle sit ups, plank holds, push ups, pull ups, wrist, hand and forearm conditioning exercises and I lazily work on my splits stretching (guess I should get serious about it if I ever want to actually get the splits. sigh). And every couple of weeks, I'll throw in some floorwork, sexy flow, & dance practice. Here's what my schedule looks like on a typical week: Saturday Level 3/4 Pole class at studio Sun Rest Day Mon & Tues ABOVE mentioned stretch and conditioning exercises Wens ABOVE mentioned stretch and conditioning exercises + I "try" to practice pole at home Thrus ABOVE mentioned stretch and conditioning exercises Fri ABOVE mentioned stretch and conditioning exercises

|: I won't do teddy or yogini because they hurt. I've been struggling with knee hold the most. I could get over superman, but kneehold is seriously making me cry. Rest days: Back mobility every day, splits training every other. If you can invest in a roller, I also recommend rolling atleast twice a week! I cheat and do my stretching and off pole strength training while watching TV :P I personally also try to sneak in forearm exercizes every two to three days, and I recommend it for new student who advance quickly. Seems like your forearms and tendons take a little bit longer to build then say, your abs for inverting. Unfortunately, tendonitis is a common pole dancer thing :/ I have it and it really sucks the days it flares up, and I can't even do a hold on my pole without feeling like my arm is going to fall off.
capfeb knee hold was hard for me too!! i had a huge knot on my shin, but it does get better!

Thanks for all of the off day input! I'm waiting for my toddler to fall asleep and I'll see if I can motivate my sore butt to do something tonight :) LittleEngine- I love the sore muscle feeling, too! It feels like I'm being reconnected to my body.
Nope, none of this is easy! But it gets easier with practice. =] Clmbing used to hurt...a lot. It felt like the skin was being ripped off my legs and now, well I don't even feel it anymore. Keep at it!
