Not always a superstar....

As lovers of all things Pole related, we follow amazing athletes whom we love and admire! Daily we're exposed to photos and videos showing only amazing flexibility and feats of strength on social media feeds. This can be a great inspiration to us, and I personally love sharing my new ideas or achievements with everyone. However, I feel there's often a downside to this constant exposure to what may be PERCEIVED as perfection and constant achievement. We begin to loose sight of our personal journey. Many times we forget how much dedication and hard work has gone into achieving above average flexibility and strength. We start to compare ourselves with others, we begin to feel down about our own journey and progress, we feel like failures. Anyway.... I think we've all had times were we've felt inadequate in the world of pole so I decided to share a REVERSE progress photos! I would like everyone to understand I am not always super flexible or in shape for that matter. I have times in my life that I simply cannot or just don't feel like training constantly. I usually make time to do some sort of exercise and if not I'm usually physically busy with 4 boys to clean up after! If I'm in a rush it's not usually pole and flexibility training I choose, and flexibility training is a luxury for me. It's something I really enjoy and often put off in order to get other things done. That's life! :) So the next time you feel everyone is alway making leaps and bounds while you regress (because you are a normal person with a life) remember this photo! Left behind is a good way too put it... when I'm discouraged it's usually because I watch girls who are very advanced and are talking about inverting like it's no big thing... and here's me in my pole sit and planking it up, and freaking out because I SORT OF did a hand stand! I'm learning to be fiercely proud of myself for every accomplishment, because they are ALL big. Someday when I'm advanced I want to be sure to never forget where I came from. Which brings me right back to why I appreciate Studio Veena so much! All the encouragement from people who get it and aren't judging is priceless. Thank you Veena, for your authenticity.

Its easy to get discouraged when we see others do things so effortlessness as we work hard to do the same or more basic things. But I found one thing that helps I'd to remember ALL people are on different levels of advancement at different times. And ALL people progress at different rates. This is why it's important not to get into the habit of comparing our progress and skills to others, but simply look at others as inspiration and motivation. *We also need to remember that every person who has learned a thing... Didn't know it at one time. They had to work to learn it as well. And they are going to continue working to learn more, just as we will. Tis the journey of every person. :)

This is a great thread in the way of simply getting back to basics of why we all started pole in the first place. We all have our own dream and journey that led us all to pole! To me personally there is nothing more beautiful than to have someone we all look up to allow themselves to be vulnerable just like the rest of us. We put our pole hero's up on a pedestal which is only human so thank you Veena for reminding us that our hero's are human. My pole and I and the rest of the world have a conflict of interest where I just cant pole everyday, or workout, or even stretch and it sucks. Veena has got me back into staying motivated to really make the time to pole etc... You all have given me a spark under my ass I desperately needed! So I thank all of you.

Thank you for this! I poled and taught through my pregnancy until close to the end. But even though I kept up I had to stop using certain muscles during that time. I'm still struggling to fully build my strength back up.

I totally agree veena thanks for sharing this post. I have recently strained my hamstring stretching for the splits just when I was on a roll with my splits and pole moves I have now had to take a good break to heal and I'm now behind with flexibility :( I feel crappy and your right it's inspiring to see flexy people but also frustrating to see so much progress on my FB feed and I'm going back instead of up it's been getting me down and putting me off enjoying my pole journey which really sucks so I feel a bit better now after reading this knowing I'm not alone and I know I will come back fighting even it takes the while summer again to get there I know I will. I'm getting there.

This made me go back to pole today! I was feeling bad because I was like man I am outta shape, but now I see it is a daily struggle and process called discipline. Once you have mastered it, its okay if you are not always consistant, just know you learned what is necessary to become great over and over again.
