Need suggestions

Any suggestions for beginner pole moves for a straight semi overweight man?

Any beginner pole moves would be appropriate for starting with pole dancing! Most men have more upper body strength, so you could potentially try out something like the Fireman spin and see how your shoulders and back reacts. While many beginner moves seem to be more on the sexy side of pole, there are a lot of moves that don't need to be made sexual, or are simply for helping move around the pole. Poledancefan, a member on here, started out at the beginner stages of pole dancing, and continued on to be one of the strongest guys around! He did a great job and has had fun with it- I really enjoyed watching his journey. Perhaps you could look him up on Youtube, as well? I'm not entirely sure why the "straight" part of your description needed to be included.

He's not interested so much in the dancing part vs the strength building.

It's not offensive, I was just confused! I know a few ladies who aren't interested in the dancing, as well. Perhaps a few of the others on here will have some suggestions. I know it can be pretty hard to get into Pole if you're not into dancing, because a lot of the beginner work is very dance and movement oriented. You could always help him get more into strength building, like side-pole-hold crunches and pull ups, things like that. Eventually work into inverts, leg holds, stuff like that.

Lily, all of veena's beginner lessons would be suitable. maybe he wouldnt care for the pirouettes, booty popping, etc if he's not interested in dance but there are pole sits, climbs, spins, thigh rest, elbowstands, so many other things suitable for beginners. Climbs take alot of strength and might be a good challenge for him. take a look at Veena's many many beginner lessons and go from there.

Check out "contemporary dance pole" on a Google search...you'll see plenty of hits where men are dancing and it is really cool, masculine, sey and powerful without being traditionally "pole" or "stripper" style. I just love love love that pole has such variety and so many possibilities for movement.
