Need help with the move Hello boys!

Ok so I only got an account and found out about this site the other day but already I'm addicted and can't stop posting Q's about thing's I've been trying to find out for ages so here's another one! I want to do the move Hello Boys (I know others call a different move hello boys but this is the one I mean: http://h-e-photography.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2xp9kf) but as soon as I try to move my legs into position after I've put my hand underneath me down the pole I just slide down onto my lower hand 😐 Does anyone have any tips how to prevent this? Or know of a tutorial to help with this move? I think it looks so pretty so really want to be able to do it myself 💣

Veena's lesson here is really good! If you don't have the lessons, though, try pulling your knees back towards your shoulders once you get your hand positioned under your cheek and then open your legs. This works for me!

hm. you don't go into this move the same way you go into a wrist seat (http://www.polzapart.co.uk/images/gallery/DOUBLE_WRIST_SEAT.jpg). you need to arch your back, let your head lean back and let your body go into plank with one hand above and below--you shouldn't be sliding down when you do this. then twist through the hips to skew the legs. the only thing keeping your hips in place is the pressure you apply by pulling your crotch into the pole with your arms.

In the pic I see her hand is thumbs down. I like to do this move with my bottom hand a little closer to my bum and thumbs up kinda like a wrist sit. It also helps me to make sure I have pole contact right underneath my butt cheek on the thigh that's extended (left). In the pic looks like she's just opposite. She has major contact on the top of the right thigh. I love this move though especially when it slowly spins just a bit. Good Luck!

I know everyone calls different moves different things, which is why I provided the pic so you'd know which move I mean even if you call it something different. Either with wrist seat/sit, or this variation I'd recommend placing the bottom hand thumb up though, to protect your wrist!

I believe http://www.wikipole.org calls this the lady garden or advanced plank/layback and Felix also does a version that is called something with hearts. For me I try to turn my torso sideways so I can bend my lower shoulder back. I do this with the same grip as an advanced plank which is thumbs facing down. I thought the hardest part of this move was getting my upper body in the right position - it requires a bit (not a ton) of back flexibility. Hope that helps 😀 I adore this move - it's so pretty.

Darn it! You're right! I got so caught up in the wrist seat story that I forgot that I actually (usually) treat this as an advanced plank variation (thumb down). Although both are very possible and very pretty. Sorry to cause confusion!

I have been wanting to add this one to the lessons (the variation of the pic posted) but I don't know what to call it. So what are we calling this one?? 🤔 I have the Wrist sit and its aka as Hello boys but what is this one?

I think it depends on whether you see it as a wrist sit variation or a plank variation. ❓ I'd definitely vote plank variation. 🏴‍☠️ But then it's still a matter of naming the variation in leg positioning. It's almost attitude legs, but not quite since the front leg is straight. Hopefully someone already has a good descriptive name for it! 😕

In my mind it's more like a twisted plank. 🤔 Here's the names for it from wikipole - all the names its known by Advanced Layback Love Heart Legs Plank Reverse Attitude Layout

i call it a skewed plank (just to avoid confusion using "twisted" as a handgrip as opposed to body placement)

I always thought the move pictured is a version of plank as well. I also thought the difference between the hello boys and the wrist seat is that the hello boys has both hands on top rather than one below to sit on. 🤓

I Know the one with both hands on top as a Tail Sit. Misleading name because you really don't want to sit on your tailbone ouch!!! 🤓

I totally agree Veena. I don't like calling it Tail Sit or Tail Split simply because in teaching it in a classroom full of people I imagine many will think the placement is on the tailbone. Can we come up with a better name for this? Advanced hello boys maybe?

Yeah I like advanced hello boys....I call hello boys a wrist sit though so I'm not sure what I'll call this one...advanced V sit Idk. lol

I always thought the move pictured is a version of plank as well. I also thought the difference between the hello boys and the wrist seat is that the hello boys has both hands on top rather than one below to sit on. 🤓 In Art of Pole DVD, Jamilla calls wrist seat as hello boys. While with both hands on top, she calls it advanced hello boys. Names, names..everyone's confused. 😂

Naming it can become involved as this move can safely be done with either hold...wrist sit type method or the split grip. It simply depends on placement and the angle of the body. I think in one it's a variation of the wrist seat and in another it's a variation of the plank...just as we have many moves that have different variations of the legs or arms, etc. A cross knee layback is still a layback as a cross ankle laybe is a layback. etc. I believe it's more advanced when doing the plank version of this move and the wrist seat version is easier...though you have to be very careful of the alignment of the wrist/hand to avoid damage. It's also much easier for less flexible dancers to do the wrist seat method. If interested you can see quite clearly how I get into it in this video at 3:33.
