Most Popular (or overplayed)?

Alright, so, due to the fact that I have seen so many videos and performances that use the same song I've decided to make a list commemorating this observation. Btw, I am not complaining about use of the same song...I've done it too! Still, I would like to get a thread started on this because I believe at this point that there really is a need for a "Pole Dancing's Greatest Hits" album or something. (haha!) Aside from that, I would like everyone to post their own observations because I know that I am going to pass over just about everything that isn't rock or metal because that is pretty much all I know. So, you all be the judge. Most popular or over-played? #1. THE DOPE SHOW by Marilyn Manson - I have seen dozens of pole videos with this song, people use it during classes, practice, it's on just about everyone's Ipod...I have no idea why. I like this song, I have since it first came out in '98, but I have no idea why people like to pole to it. Maybe I read into the lyrics too much, or I remember the official video too well to just get into the awesome music. Whatever it is, in my opinion, this is the most popular (or overplayed) pole dancing song of all time. #2. ME, I'M NOT and CLOSER by nine inch nails - In my opinion, Me, I'm Not is even more popular (or overplayed) in the pole community than Closer by nine inch nails! It may just be because it has a great beat and it doesn't have any dirty words (i.e. in Closer the lyrics repeat "I wanna f*ck you like an animal, I wanna feel you from the inside"). I am an old school NI? fan, so I have danced to both of these songs on numerous occasions. Me, I'm Not is a great song for cool-down stretches and slow dances, but I can't help but giggle sometimes when the lyrics go "Ayyyyyyyy...can we stop?" because I always think of Trent Reznor dressed as the Fonz from Happy Days. Closer is far superior to pole to in my opinion because it has so many cues for great moves and is perfect for spin-mode. There are also a great variety of remixes of Closer if you don't like or can't get into the original. My own personal favorite version of Closer is the Trance Remix w/ Static X. #3. COUNTING BODIES LIKE SHEEP (to the rhythm of the war drums) by A Perfect Circle - This one has been used in more performances, competitions and otherwise, than just about any song I've ever heard. I think it is because it has a tempo that works well while dancing either fast or slow, it keeps each step in time, it's powerful, sexy, and leaves plenty of room to improvise creatively. Personally, I prefer the original "Pet" to this remix but that's mainly because it was the first version I heard and I like the heavier guitar riffs. Also, I own the album Thirteenth Step and when I play "Pet" there is a song it leads into called "Lullaby" that is great for cooling down. #4. COMING UNDONE by KoRn - First off, the lyrics make this like the perfect anthem for pole dancing. There are so many YouTube videos, classes, routine tutorials, and competitors that use this song and perform it beautifully. In fact, what first brought me to SV in the first place was Veena's sexy dance video on YouTube where she used this song. To this day, I think of Veena when I dance to Coming Undone and I'm pretty sure she will always own it in my mind. #5. GLORY BOX by Portishead - I know that I have seen at least seven videos on YouTube, about three on SV, at least twelve altogether online, and just about everyone I know has it on their pole-playlist. Not my favorite song to dance to, but I'm guilty of it too. lol Something about this haunting melody has it's own pole-anthem right to it. #6. SOBER by Tool - Thank Alethea Austin for making this one so popular in the pole world! Ever since she owned it that night at the USPDF National Championship and won her title complete with handcuffs and an injured knee, this song has gained more recognition by women than it ever did back in 1994. If you've never listened to any other songs by Tool, you really should. This is not the only one by them that is pole-worthy and you'll find that "Prison Sex" also works well with handcuffs...just putting it out there for anyone who is up for the challenge. I would love to add that pole video to my collection. Haha! #7. MY IMMORTAL, BRING ME TO LIFE, CALL ME WHEN YOU'RE SOBER, or anything else by Evanescence - I am sorry, but I am gonna have to go ahead and say it...I am sick of Evanescence dance videos. To be honest I am sick of videos being made to all of the songs on this list because I have a specific one for each that I enjoy more than others that no one has been able to top, and once that happens I forever find myself comparing each new performance to the one I like best. When it comes to Evanescense...no one has topped Jenyne Butterfly. Sorry. It just hasn't happened yet and, although that is no reason to stop dancing to Evanescence or whatever else you may like, you will have to forgive me if I mute your video and opt for something else as the soundtrack. (Then again, listen to me be a snob...a lot of people who view my videos on YouTube either tell me my taste in music sucks or to stop insulting true art with my "stripping-for-dummies" bs. Lol) #8. PORN STAR DANCING by My Darkest Days - I don't hate it but I can't get into this song, and that's all I'm gonna say. #9. TAINTED LOVE covered by Marilyn Manson - Yeah, I know Manson already made the list, but I have seen more than a dozen pole-videos to this song. It's on my playlist, I'm guilty of dancing to it, but I can't get past the thought of that movie Coneheads where Dan Aykroyd is singing it all dressed up as an alien. However, Manson's music video for it is very sexy, it has pole dancers in it, and in my opinion is vastly superior to the Soft Cell version from the 1980's. Very few people know that Tainted Love was originally an underground Motown classic performed by Gloria Jones in 1964. #10. REV 22:20 (Dry Martini Mix) by Puscifer - Another song made popular in the pole community by Alethea Austin. Although, most people use the original and not the remix possibly just because they do not know the full title of the one she used in her X-Stage video. I have danced to this song but I have never made a video and I probably never will due to the fact that Alethea made it so iconic. Still, it is a great song to pole to and no matter how great a video from someone else may be that is no reason to limit yourself from it! *Also, I would like to note that Maynard James Keenan (the singer of Puscifer, A Perfect Circle, and Tool) has appeared on this list three times with three different songs from three different bands. That's not just because I am a fan, but because I've noticed that all three of these songs are extremely popular with pole dancers. In fact, A Perfect Circle may be one of the most popular bands used for pole dancing EVER. I have seen strippers dance to Magdalena; I have seen national and international pole champions dance to 3 Libras and Counting Bodies Like Sheep; I have viewed probably forty or fifty amateur videos that have used a song by APC; and both instructors and students alike often have it on their playlist. So, yeah, purchase and download A Perfect Circle if you don't have it yet. They only had like three albums, but they are all pretty damn good for poling and you can let it play all the way through...except for eMOTIVe, but that's just my opinion.
