The amount of support I have just received from posting my pushing 50 thread literally changed my feelings from insecurities to hope. I haven't posted before because I felt too old, too big etc etc, maybe if we had a 40+ topic I would have felt more comfortable expressing my fears? Is that a possibility?

I ahte to hear that you felt too old/big to post. That's horrible 🙁 But I'm beyond happy to see that you're feelings have changed now. What kind of things would one look for in a 40+ topic?

Hi Sissy, For me it's all the insecurities, hormonal changes, body changes and physical challenges I didn't use to face that I'm facing now. All that go along w/ aging and fighting thru them w/ the support of others my age that can relate.

All that go along w/ aging and fighting thru them w/ the support of others my age that can relate. pink -- hormonal changes !!!! holy moly i'd heard of them all my life, but now i'm LIVING them and i just hate it ! i'm told by those who are 'on the other side' of the change that it does get better, but.... since february i have gained 6lbs (only 5 feet tall so that's a lot on my frame), and watched my middle go from looking good and trim to having a right pillow over my belly and a new roll in my back !! WTF !!! WHO ASKED FOR THIS !! and then there's the mood : mostly just foul and depressed ! but i can still get on a pole and challenge myself learning new stuff ! i just got the iguana (pencil) from the floor recently, and feel like hot sh*t cuz I can do it. did the star the other night and let go both hands.... granted that needs work, but i did it ! so.... despite the drawbacks of menopause, in no way does it prevent poling ! xxoo
I'll be 40 on December 1st and I would love to see this topic. I've been poling since 36 and I have noticed subtle changes in my body. I know that more than anything us older ladies need to protect our joints and tendon b/c they are more susceptible to injury. And then there are the feelings and insecurities that one is too 'old' to do pole. I've definitely slowed down on my practice and I think this is playing into it. 😕

I also notice my insecurities about my age and size are super duper during class. I'm in a class filled w/ girls 1/2 much age and twice my skill level. I think if I was their age I wouldn't feel AS insecure about my skill level. Does that make sense?

Does that make sense? our studio has mixed ages. maybe it's just the general vibe we put forth, but our youngers are great. there is absolutely no diva attitudes anywhere, even among the more skilled. they are actually very helpful and supportive to the olders. in some cases they look up to us and want very much to be like us when they get to be our age. this whole agine thing is kind of like being stuck in traffic: you can sit there all steamed and blow the horn for all your worth which won't change a thing, or you can resign yourself to it and find a different way to occupy your thoughts. kind of like making lemons out of lemonade....
I personally love to see and hear about older women who are poling b/c it gives me hope that I can continue.
When I first started pole dancing, one of my first instructors in Toronto was a grandmother!!! (And a hot grandma at that.) She knew how to dance sexy, wear tall heels, and could do lots of great spins and inversions and taught the first mostly boys class I've ever seen. Also, at spinbuddies, where I teach now, we have an entire class of women between ages 40 and 55. Also we have a few mothers that take class with their daughters. Our oldest poler ever was in her early sixties (a beginner)! One thing I have to say is that the whole time you older gals are feeling all self-concious around the younger trixters, I've got news for you: The young little trixters respect the hell out of you guys for being there!! You carry yourselves with a beautiful poise, grace, and inner self-assurance that none of those kiddies will have for another decade or two. Remember that we're all there to have fun and enjoy this amazing (and at times) crazy addiction to pole regardless of age, skill or gender. At any age, exercise is always good and pole is always fun!
Thanks for the pep talk mancandy! ☀️ You are so right! PS, saw your impromptu performance in the lower level of the club at the afterparty for uspdf in March. The girls back my way were going nuts and wanted to know who you were. One girl turned around and with big eyes whispered "that's mancandy". Everyone was like "yeah, he is!" lol.
As much as I wish that pole was as popular when I was younger I don't want to be younger in this age and day. I routinely get "I hope I look as good as you when I am your age" along with many not believing I am in my 40's. Pole keeps you young!!
i'm glad we helped you! no need to fear anyone around here! however, i do think a 40+ forum would do more to separate us than to unite us....i think the label will make some people feel unwelcome in that forum when we all deal with the same pole issues regardless of age 😳

i'm glad we helped you! no need to fear anyone around here! however, i do think a 40+ forum would do more to separate us than to unite us....i think the label will make some people feel unwelcome in that forum when we all deal with the same pole issues regardless of age 😳 hey polebunny, with all due respect i think i disagree that a specific over 40 forum would do more to separate us... i think it's simply that there ARE differences in women over 40 vs women younger who pole. take a look at the list of SV forums -- for example there's one for newbies. i don't think that separates the newbies, but just gives em a chance to vent their newbie issues in a specific place. for myself, that is the same way i'd view an over 40 forum. just my opinion.....

Hi, I didn't start on the pole until I was 50. I've been at it for 2 years and looking forward to many more. I share your concerns about injuries. I've learned to go slow and enjoy smaller accomplishments. Eventually, things come together, it's just at a different pace for us. Thank you to the one who wrote how mature women are appreciated by younger ones in class. One way to look at it is that we are sending a can do/try it positive message to younger people- don't let chronological age be a bar. You never know until you try. I haven't had this much upper body strength my entire life, so I'm glad to be enjoying it now. Relax and have fun, that's what it should be all about. T
I'm still wrapping my brain around the fact that I'm even old enough to be called an "older woman". LOL. At 40 years old, I feel like a kid at heart with a youthful and playful spirit to match. I'm sure than anyone 40+ , who "dares" to pole and is on this forum is probably a mirror reflection of that attitude. So, kudos to everyone in this age category who chooses to lead active lives rather than sedentary ones. Kudos to everyone in this category who doesn't feel too old to face new challenges and fears (physical & emotional) while following their passion. Here's to us old fogies!
You guys aren't "fogies"! My ex-girlfriend is 47 years old and was wonderful for the most part. (by the way, the 15 year age difference had nothing to do with our break-up after 4 years.) I've always gravitated to older women, they only start to get REALLY sexy (and comfortable enough with themselves to fully enjoy) in their mid to late 30's and up.

You guys aren't "fogies"! My ex-girlfriend is 47 years old and was wonderful for the most part. (by the way, the 15 year age difference had nothing to do with our break-up after 4 years.) I've always gravitated to older women, they only start to get REALLY sexy (and comfortable enough with themselves to fully enjoy) in their mid to late 30's and up. Thank you Mr. ManCandy. 🙂
