What kind of mat/rug should I use under my pole? I have hardwood floors... What kind of mat/rug is best? How big? Etc.?

i think i wrote this in another forum, i cant remember lol! im 23 and i think i have alzheimers already. anyways, i would suggest going to target or a store like that and going into the workout section- you know, the section where they have yoga mats, health dvds, weights, stuff like that. http://img.alibaba.com/photo/205464341/EVA_exercise_mat_exercise_mat_Gym_mat.summ.jpg that's what im talking about. id get a mat that connects like that, that way you could cut a hole in the middle to fit your pole and connect the mats all together.

i'll swap you my carpet for your hardwood floor? 😂 i'm nursing a lovely carpet burn on one knee just now so, though i don't have any suggestions for what kind of mat to go for, i would stay away from carpet-y rugs! those jigsaw mats look fab. i'll need to have a look and see what kind of places sell them in the uk.
If you sew or do crafts, keep an eye on the back of the store at Michael's or the Fabric/Singer shops. I have grabbed up several remnants of styrofoam sheets and large pieces of fiberfill stuffing for 5-10 dollars. It's not a gym quality mat, but if you put the foam remnants under bathroom rugs or carpet remnants, you get a fairly soft surface that resists breakthrough. I did eventually get regular gym mats at the sporting goods store, but I still stack up my layers of foam underneath the regulation mats. I am a heavy guy (almost 200 lbs, nearly 50 years old), so I can't really take too many chances with a fall. I've landed hard on my butt a few times on top of my stack of foam rubber and gym mats and not gotten seriously hurt... Joel

thats a great tip joel! i never thought of those foam things before!!! 🙂 moth, ive had SO MANY carpet burns, those little bruises are painful aren't they!? 😲

I believe Alena from PoleJunkies is now selling mats that are made especially for pole dancing.

I know Deb Riley who runs the Pole-o-mats site. She has said previously that she will ship the mat cover overseas so long as you can find foam where you are to fill it with, that would cut down on the shipping costs The Pole-o-mats are fabulous too!
I have done a few upholstery jobs in my hubbys campers and let me tell you, there is only one way to cut foam. An ELECTRIC CARVING KNIFE! It is very effective! After searching for crash mats and seeing the prices... I might as well make my own! Adding that to my to-do's list now... ;0)

I went to Joann Fabrics, they run half price one item coupons alot. I got huge 5 inch thick foam pieces, they come in lengths of up to like 6 feet...and you can have them cut to a shorter size so you pay for what you need. They use an electric knife, and was easy to do. I just covered it with a sheet. and banded on each side with a strap/velcro think sleeping bag cord) it works wonderful and very durable too.
