Male guests to your house and Pole

My pole is in the living room of my apartment and whenever I would have a male friend over that never seen it or don't know that I do "pole fitness," they often be like: Get on that pole and let me see you do some tricks or let me see how you workout. I in turn say you don't qualify to see that. ;) They would keep wanting to see. I don't have another place to put it in terms of space, I live on campus. I do want to be able to hang out in the comfort of my own residence too sometimes. If I was more advanced and stuff I would love to show off, but I am not. (Motivation to practice, right?)How do you combat that if this has happened to you? Any suggestions?

My answer, which is true, is that I do not like to perform on the pole without a proper warm-up. I explain that this is a fitness apparatus and it is easy to injure yourself if not warmed up properly.

Look them dead in the eye and say NO. Keep the eye contact going until they are uncomfortable for even asking you.

Saphyre- True, you are right. If my body isn't warm I can't do nothing really. ChemG- I am a person who smile a lot and I think that will work so well. Strong lady, :)!

I usually just bust out one go-to trick. I am NOT going to do a whole dance performance for them just because they feel they have a right. Doing one trick impresses them, stops them from asking for more, and honestly makes me feel kinda like a badass :P Showing off can be fun sometimes! Just be sure you're safe and these people don't get ideas about what they can do with you just because you have a pole.

I would do the butterfly (in my display picture) or the reverse grab spin, I think. Those are the two moves I'm capable of that have the most wow factor, I think. And I generally don't mess them up like I do my other moves, haha.

I mean, even a well-executed fireman spin can stop friends in their tracks! especially if you invite them to try afterwards and they see that it's difficult.

Tell them that if you do a trick on the pole for them, they'll have to do something on the pole for you! You either don't have to do it, or you get some fun laughs and everyone settles down :) Otherwise, you can tell them something like what Saphyre said, that you don't generally want to injure yourself by doing something strenuous without warming up. Showing off certainly can be fun, and I'm always wanting to introduce more and more people to my pole- girls I know, guys that come over, anyone! I'll show them basic moves, and see if they want to try. People are often fascinated that it's even in my home, let alone that I can do things with it. But, like I said, after a trick or two, people generally settle down and go back to normal conversation.

I may or may not just do a regular fireman for them (with a hair flip haha). They already go WOW with just that coz they don't know any better haha! But attitude wise, I tend to take it in stride and tease back about it. I find that if you're too defensive or act overly protective about your poling, either they start thinking you are stuck up, or they thinking you strip somewhere or something... And really, pole for me is fun and carefree so I don't act like it's a *super secret* thing. I treat it like a conversation piece. But I do tell male or female guests that I only show your tricks to super special people or people who really really deserve it. So if they want to see more, they better start treating you nicely... 😉

I usually show a spin or something easy that I know I can pull off without warming up Then ask them, if they want to try something. Guys love to show of their upper body strength. I've had guys who can shoulder mount like it's nothing on day 1 of ever seeing a pole.

Always make them go first - hahaha! Or just tell them you wouldn't run on the treadmill in front of them so why would you pole in front of them? Either way don't let anyone make you feel uncomfortable in your own space with your pole. Plus to the unknown eye a pole pole sit, climb or spin is usually pretty impressive. You don't have to do a lot to get a fun and encouraging reaction :)

My go to move is always a flag. I REALLY like messing with guys on this one, and it totally messes with them! But then again, I can bust out a flag without even thinking. This is the most fun late in the evening at a bar with drunken idiots who fall on their faces. I kind of use it as payback. But then again, I am evil that way.

I usually pressure them before they can even think about pressuring me. Then again, my friends are all insane anyway. ChemGoddess: I just nailed the flag day before yesterday. I was so proud of myself lol

Wow you ladies are dominant! Lol. I love the ideas. Gummypia: I love the hairflip idea. I do get protective and shy and they do start to take I work in a club. Chem: The flag would be jaw dropping for them. It amazes me how guys are so in shock of my pole and then two two's when i turn my back they are playing on it. SMH lol!

Great thread. I love to show off my pole stuff to males or females I don't care :-) but what really erks me is when ppl who have never touched a pole, start to make comments about how you can improve, then I'm like 'really, you're going there?!' Usually that's when I invite them to try a pull up.....hah!

I have similar conversations at work alot, when I'm talking about pole (usually to girlfriends) and realise a male co-worker has been eavesdropping, although they all know I pole anyway. They always ask if they can come along or watch sometime, or make the usual crack about a work night out to a strip club and watching me... And a few times I've just said "well I can't do anything here, but you couldn't do it anyway, you've got to be really flexible" and then i casually lean back against a convenient wall and do a handwalk down, finishing in the crab position! They are always gobsmacked! It helps that I work with unfit guys (anyone athletic would realise it's not a very hard move, it just looks cool), I work in a science lab not an office, and we have to wear long pants or jeans so I can't flash anyone!

I usually just break off something that's fairly easy for me to pull off, looks impressive, and doesn't require a lot of warm up, nor stripping down to stick. Butterfly would be my go-to show off trick. Thought you guys would like this story: So a friend of mine whom I only knew from the internet was passing through my town and I'd offered to let him stay at my house on his way through. I promised him a little performance. As I had just come from teaching my class, I was still in my pole skivvies and already warmed up. I grabbed my towel and started wiping the pole down and just as I was about to climb up and wipe the top part off, he jumps off the chair and offers to wipe down the top foot or so for me. "Do you need help with the top? I can get that for you." I laughed out loud right in his face and told him to sit down. I thought, "You have never actually seen anyone pole dance, have you? You have NO IDEA what I'm about to do." I said, "I got this, I promise. Thanks for the offer." About two seconds later, his jaw was on the floor and he was all WOW, as they do sometimes. All I did was a beginner routine; it hardly had anything tricky in it, but he thought I was AMAZING. So little effort for such great payoff. ;)
