lil mynx eating ceilings

So I have seen it mentioned on here a number of times that the lil mynx mounts eat through the drywall, can widen the hole in the stod, and come down. Does this happen with the vaulted ceiling mount? It looks much more sturdy than the little plastic mounts that come with the LM pole. I am still considering using LM for my studio poles. The studios I took classes at used them, and I didn't see problems, but one had them permanently atached to the floor, and the other had the vaulted cailing mounts directly into a stud.

I know that the S Factor studios all had Lil Mynx poles to start out (not sure if they still do). It may be worth a call to them to see if they had any issues in their studios.

I talked to randy at LM and he said the ceiling damaged is usually caused by people tightening the pole while it's up (instead of taking it down to adjust.) I suppose it's possible. I never saw any issues with my friends' poles, and we used them for about a year.

The first vaulted ceiling mount would not stay tight, the mount would turn with he pole and press into the Sheetrock. Randy sent me a new mount with 2 long screws instead of one short screw. It is pressing into the ceiling a tiny amount, but I haven't had any problems with the pole coming loose, it's been up for over a year and I use it a lot.

I could probably buy a longer screw to use with the regular mount. That might make it a little sturdier. I am probably going to use the mount it comes with.

I have the minx and the vaulted ceiling adapter, it ate through my ceiling within a few months causing me and the pole to come down. Now we have a piece of hardwood between the adapter and the ceiling with the screw going through that. It has been rock solid for several years like that. So solid I can't get it down lol. But the screw doesn't seem to be able to eat though the hardwood like it did the drywall ceiling.

Wow, I've NEVER had my lil mynx eat my ceiling and come down on me! Perhaps this is an issue with the vaulted ceiling adapter? My pole is currently at nearly full extension, and it's handling everything really well. Of course, the ceilings right now are wood and plaster ;)

its not just the vaulted adapter the girl that owned mine before me had the same problem and she had a flat ceiling.

nymph - How thick of a piece of wood did you use? and what length of screw? I might use your method to be safe.

I've been following this closely because I am also putting Lil Mynx in my new studio. I'm interested in which type of pole you selected? I personally have a black powder coated one and really like it, but he said most people choose stainless steel for studios because they are easier to care for. The powder coated ones are going to require some strict procedures about removing and storing. But reading on here tells me Lil Mynx SS has a reputation for being very slippery and I don't want girls to be frustrated with their lessons because they don't stick. I'm interested to hear which ones you've chosen. You might help me make my decision!

the piece of wood is about 6 inches long (this part is laying same direction as the stud) about 3.5 inches wide and an inch thick. It is held up by 2 screws that go into the stud at either end of the 6 inches. pole is screwed through the middle of the piece of wood and into the stud. It has been very secure since we did it this way. my minx is stainless and slippery as snot most of the time (unless its humid then I can stick like the dickens)

I am going with SS. I thought about the powder coated, but a studio in Portland told me that they can be so grippy that they can be a liability. SS is hard to get at first, but it is possible to get, even with sweaty hands (I am a super sweater, and I can do SS, I just have to keep my grip strength up, a fan nearby to dry my hands, and lots of wiping!) I am glad I learned on a SS since it trained me on the slickest metal, so now I can transition wihtout fear. I am probably going to get a few 45mm and a few 5omm for variety.

For the topic of grip, or lack thereof, I find my SS to be wonderful...I live in a very humid climate, though (so I'm told, anyways!) in the northern west coast, so I think that has something to do with it! I also learned on SS Lil Mynx's, and I wasn't really frustrated by the pole at all.
