Hi there, I'm a 37 year old male from switzerland. I started a few days ago with pole fitness and that is why I'm here to learn. Any ideas how big the learning curve is for a person like me? Any feedback is appreciated Sincerely, Peter

Hi! What's your current fitness level (strength, flexibility)?
How do I find out what my current fitness level is like? :-) All I do for fitness so far is hiking. At work I'm always in a standing position and moving a lot. Don't know if that is telling anything about me. I'm 1.80m tall and 80kg weight.
I would say flexibility and strength are just normal.
As you surely understand it's not possible to estimate someones learning curve with any higher confidence, but spontaneously I'd think you'll be able to perform many of the tricks which belong to the advanced group (for examples, check out the gallery here on the site) within a year if you just work a bit consistently. The flexible tricks I don't dare to make a guess about. Some advance quickly and others really slowly. Regarding clean and fluid transitions, movement and lines I would guess a few years as you obviously don't have a background in dancing (or gymnastics). But I could be all wrong:) Also I don't know your goals with pole dancing. Some want to use it as a strength work out and others want to become performers (so needing the whole "kit"). Hope this helps at least a little.
I was wondering this too but I am finding out that it is specific to you. I start with the pole strength routine each time I workout and I keep track of how much difficulty I have with the pole holds and knee tucks. For example, I used to have to do one knee tuck at a time and now I break them into groups of five in a row. Do it like you would any other workout, slowly. If you ramp up to quickly you will just injure yourself and set yourself back. I have been working out on the pole for a month now and I am just up to the pole climbs and sits and I won't move on from those until I can do them comfortably. My advice it take your time, form is much, much more important than speed.
Thanks a lot for the kind response of both of you. I keep it in my mind not to run too fast with it. Going step by step. Still I want to try some basic moves even though Veena says in her warm up video, you should start doing moves after 3 weeks of practicing the warm up. I don't plan to end up as a professional dancer, I just want to learn and see how far I can get with it.

Pwullschleger, Stargazermomma is correct, everyone will progress differently. Pwullschleger, I think you may have misunderstood the progression of the lessons. You don't have to only work on the warm up for 3 weeks. :) You have two options for using the lessons. 1) Watch all of the Getting Started Lessons placed at the beginning of each section. Then follow the lessons in the order they're listed. The Getting Started lessons will explain each section and give you tips regarding how often to practice. 2) Try using the 30 Day Take Off Program, This will tell you exactly what to work on for 30 days, it ever tells you when to rest. If you want more of a workout after completing a day feel free to add on to it. Let me know if you have questions :)
