I know alot of the olympic athletes were wearing it during the olympics and ive heard great reviews on it. Have anyone here used it? Ive been thinking about using it on me during the day but I wasnt sure yet. My hamstrings are KILLING me during the day. Do you know if I have to get someone else to tape me up (dr, pro etc) or can I do it myself.

I use it and I have seen both Alethea and Karol taped with it. The KT Tape brand has really good videos and instructions on their website and on youtube. You can find that brand at Walmart for about the best price, but they do not carry all of the pretty colors, just basically blue, black and nude. While it does not cure or eleviate all pain, it has been a blessing some days when my shoulder is acting up. It typically takes 2 people, at least on the shoulders and arms, and you will probably waste a few strips just getting the hang of getting it on right. The stuff is stretchy and I have a bad habit of pulling the backing off too quick and it doubles up in itself. http://www.kttape.com/

Medical practicioners spend a lot of money and time on appropriate training for how to use such modalities. A video online is not going to help you truly figure out how much stretch to put into the tape or whether to tape from origin to insertion or the reverse. It will not teach you where a muscle's origin or insertion is. I have frequently recommended to clients to combine therapeutic modalities as research shows that an appropriate combination is significantly more effective than one in isolation. The athletes you saw in the Olympics are under the care of qualified people who have been trained in kinesiotex tape application. To be honest, it sounds like you may have shin splints which can lead to fractures in your tibia. While I am not there to assess you in person, I would highly recommend that you get checked by a doctor and possibly see a therapist for rehab to make certain you don't injure yourself further. I love love love my tape. However, I went to a Sports Chiro and learned how to apply it. From there, I learned on my own how to use it on other parts of my body. I have fibromyalgia, so I hurt all the time. So when I am having a flair, or my knee is not tracking correctly (also have internally rotated femurs, making tracking of my knee impossible), or my rotator cuff is acting up, I tape up. I also helped heal a nagging micro tear in my gracilis (had pain off and on for over a year, taping it helped it heal within a month). Go find someone, specifically a sports therapist, that can show you how to properly tape. You can get it in black at walgreens for about $10. You can also get KT brand tape at any sporting goods store. good luck! Sumer
I've used KT Tape. So helpful it's scary. You don't need a pro to put the tape on, but that would be a nice luxury to have, especially the first time so you know what it feels like when it's right. You might need to reapply-I find it starts getting a little gross after a few days-and won't want to trek to the dr's office every time.
I bought some at my local grocery store last night. My hamstrings and where my glute meet are always tight, I try to stretch it out and take it easy when I get a free moment. But it looks a little odd laying on the floor of my office trying to stretch. As much as I want to see a sport meds doc it comes down to 2 factors - insurance and time. I dont have the greatest insurance and finding a speciality doc is a big pain. Then factor in a full time job and no down time from rushing kids here there and everywhere, my body gets put on the back burner a lot! What I had noticed what really helped was getting a massage, it totally opened them up and I felt so much better. But trying to find time to do it is really hard to factor in. My husband (the college graduate who graduated with a degree in exercise physiology (please excuse my spelling coffee isnt in my system yet)) looked at it and didnt see how it could help me. Granted he hasnt been using his degree and been out of the industry for over 8yrs now. I had him help me get tapped. I have noticed a difference but its only been one day. I do look funky with my bright pink tape peeking out of my kahkis though! LOL
