Jerzey Girl's 1st Lesson!!

Hey! As I said my 1st lesson was on Sunday and I LOVED IT!!! I'm hooked. Can't wait to go back. The instructor went through how to walk and grip the pole, how to incorporate spins, pole bends, a couple of transition ideas, and I learned how to do the firefly and the fireman. I had alot of fun...too bad I haven't gotten a pole yet so I can teach myself at home and use the Vids here 🙁 But in due time. My wrists and the back of my ankle are a little tender though. But I'm looking forward to learning more. 🙂 One thing I noticed is that I gripped the pole really tightly. It almost burned. Can anyone describe for me what your grip should feel like while doing a spin?? I don't want to hold on to tight, but I don't want to grip too loosely either...thanks

Yaay! another addict 😛 Grip for spins just kinda comes to you with practice. When you are new to a move you tend to grip a bit tighter until you feel comfortable with it.

yupyup untill you are comfortable with yourself on the pole you wont really know. most of the time if theyre scared of falling theyll cling on for dear life and not let themselves swing out n away from the pole so they wont get momentum as well, and their arm will grag on the pole n cause pole burn on their wrist. for me i very my grip depending on if i wanna slow myself down =) it should feel like a normal grip but not a grip as if ur trying to pull ur self up. like i said tho ull find it when youre confident in the spins you are doing and in urself on the pole ^^ im glad you enjoyed your first class though. the first is always omg! ^^ the pain also will go away. for now ur body and the muscles ur working arent used to what ur doing to it either. but it will get to the point where ur body will go "eh what is she doing?.. oh ok .." n stead of "ahh i was sleeping what is she doing to me?? "

Welcome, thats great you had a fun first lesson. Newbies tend to really have a death grip on the pole, it gets better with time. If you find that you get pole burn on your wrist, you can wear wrist cuffs and that will stop it. 😀
