I'm working on the Jade with both hands holding my top foot. Can someone explain to me where the grip is meant to be? I just can't stick on the pole. Any other tips would be most appreciated!

The grip is supposed to be at the meaty part of your waist and upper inner thigh. Get into an inside leg hang and pull your inside leg towards your head. Keep one hand on the pole for security/safety initially.

i personally find that due to the way my body is made, or whatever, it always ends up against my bottom ribs and is BRUTALLY painful. I have a girlfriend who actually cracked her ribs doing this move on a slippy pole, so please be careful!

yes be careful! i have bruised/cracked/injured my rib from doing this too!
I too broke my 10th and 11th rib trying to figure this move out.
Is there a particular reason why you're trying to avoid using an underarm grip? Because I find the underarm grip, and using that hand to smush my hip on the pole, to be very important in avoiding the pole ending up in my ribs. With this move I grip the pole somewhere below the hip bone and the upper/inner thigh. Getting the pole below the protrusion of the hip bone is crucial to me; it gives me a very secure grip and keeps the pole out of my ribs so I can really relax into the move.
So, my bad. I just went and tried the Jade to make sure I explained myself right, and the pole is not actually below my hip bone, it's just below my 'love handle.' So I'm gripping mostly with my love handle, less so the protrusion of hip bone, and with the upper/inner thigh.
if i were to draw a circle around my waist from where my belly button is - that is where i hold my no handed jade. hope this helps :o)
polefitmom, would you say you are flexing sideways, or do you try to rotate your upper body towards the pole or inside leg..also are you trying to take your head towards your knee..or are you pulling the inside leg across pole towards the floor? Also, I have a very short waist, my navel is actually inlign with my lower ribs...any suggestions on how not to break my ribs next time on this move.

I find its really important for me to move into this with the torso high enough (close to the thighs) and to not allow the torso to hang down when moving into Jade. That placement (torso too low) could have you pushing the pole into the ribs. I also think of turning the torso towards to opposite direction so away from the pole. Here is the lesson for this one. @ I can do a regular Jade, but I just want to try a variation. And I think the Jade to Allegra without the Scorpion is a pretty transition... If I can only get that arm free! Thanks for tips ladies. I think when I do the regular Jade, I twist into the pole a bit to try and get my top leg further down towards my face. But with this Jade, should I try to turn away from the pole, but still try to pull my leg down? Will I still get a flat split?
