I feel like I'm wrong for wanting to learn pole at home over a studio. I did attend a studio for 2 months once a week, so I have a lot of my basics down... I just feel at home I can focus on what I want to and learn more at my own pace and not compare myself to others as much ... :/

It's never wrong to do what feels best for you, but I think the two compliment each other ! You can go to a studio and let them help you, and then come home and work on certain things that you had difficulty with a little bit more. (: Veena's wonderful lessons make it very possible to learn pole at home, and she definitely shows you the correct way to do things and in the correct order. Sometimes, I'm so uncoordinated that I find it hard to copy exactly what I see someone else doing. For certain things I understand more when I can have someone correct my grip or tell me what I'm doing wrong in real time. It just depends, but I think both are essential !
You are not wrong for preferring to pole at home, but you should still take the time to decide if this is the right decision for you. I still plants attend the studio for workshops and what not, but it's just too expensive for me to continue to go to studio classes weekly. I only went once a week to begin with and every time i went back I felt like I had regressed

(From personal experience) learning through a studio can be great, if you find the right place. It's safer to have someone there to spot you, to adjust your hands or legs if you are in a move wrong, and nothing beats that moment when you get a move/spin/pose and the entire room bursts out clapping. BUT if you've been attending a studio that is unsupportive, unsafe or just doesn't make you feel good about your self, then it isn't the best place for you. Perhaps you are one of those students who will do better learning stuff on her own and then going back to a studio for a refresher class or to work on something you just can't get on your own. You certainly have the best pole lesson resources at this site to help you (and us too!)
Exactly how I feel. It's not they try are unsupportive I'm just not jiving with the studio right now

Then I think you have the right idea. Go back for workshops and whatnot. In order to pole successfully at home, I would suggest making yourself a schedule. It doesn't have to be far in advance or anything, but at least write out what you want to work on (warm up, strength, conditioning, moves, stretching) so that you don't overwhelm yourself each time you step up to your pole
I plan to do that for sure. If i don't schedule it out nothing will get done, lol

What I found works for me is I will take either a 30 Day Take Off or (in the case of now) Ab challenge and expand on that. So my pole schedule might involve doing one of those, a warm up, working on 2, 3 or 4 moves on both sides and then stretching.

I only learned pole dancing at home, I now own a studio and teach several times a week (have been teaching for 3 years). I still do my best dancing when I am in the privacy of my own space at home!
I think a studio can help you when learning the basics as a beginner and be great for socialising, motivating and supporting you, but like you I also prefer to train on my own. I get the most out of my pole dancing when I have the space and privacy to relax and really feel the music. I think learning solo is much better for developing your own unique style too! Often studios can create very repetitive and formulaic, stylised dancing that might not be true to who you are. So go for it! Don't feel worried about it!

ive never been to a studio so i dont kno the difference, but ive developed in tricks and dancing on my own at home just fine i think!

I think it depends on the studio, honestly. Where I live there's only one decent studio for 400 miles. And while I love going to it, it's 50miles from me! And it's not that my instructor is bad, but this is just an example. I love my instructor to pieces, she is amazing. But I would feel more inclined to go to my studio if I had a pro at it. I learned a lot of things at pole expo this year that I haven't seen taught in any other studios (I've been to ones outside of my state as well.) Just do what works best for you.
I think that every time we prefer to do something on our own instead of in the company of others, we tend to feel that we are wrong. I hope it's the feeling of it that is wrong, not the need itself. Go for some home poling since that is obviously what you want right now. The worst that could happen is that you'll feel it was the wrong decision and then there is always the option to go back to the studio again I assume. If you had been a complete beginner then I would have recommended a studio in any case, but now you're not. And maybe you take the lessons on here? At the time when I still took classes I never did this continuously. I always took some time in between the courses to pole alone, since that's what I like best. Maybe the progress can sometimes be slower when you are alone an no one will watch and push you to learn new tricks, but it's not all about speed, it should be enjoyable as well!
I quite like poling at home - our group is quite a mixed bag and because i'm such a newbie I do feel a lil silly when everyones twirling like requested and I'm standing there thinking "whats THAT?" I will continue to go once a week to a studio because I want to make sure I am doing each move correctly, (I know I miss something that improves my technique) so it might be worth popping in once in a while to polish up what you are doing
Not wrong at all. I love to pole at home. Have never been in a studio before and do not see it happening any time in the near future either. Getting to make my own schedule learn at my own pace having such fantastic outlets to learn from Ike studio veena !

Quirky girl.....where were u going in central fl? Just curious on which studio ( there r only a few). The one I went to just closed ....
I plan to do the studio veena lessons for sure. First the 30 day take off and then getting a years subscription . I just feel I learn better when I can practice more than once a week and get a little more attention than at studios sometimes. My husband can watch lessons with me and tell me if it looks like something just isn't quite right, and I can Skype with some of you ladies hopefully:)

I've never been in a studio but am thinking about home tuition at the mo. there are things I feel I need a spotter for these days. The more advanced stuff takes courage to try alone. Veena did you home pole and learn alone?

In my city there is a studio. I went there in the beginning, but I didn't like it. I didin't feel comfort with a lot of girls. I missed a lovely studio and instructor.
I went to a studio for the beginner six weeks series and one extra class after that. I prefer at home as well. I do plan on purchasing some private instructions soon though. I didn't have any problems with the studio but the price and then driving there was getting to me. There was always to many people in the classes also. When warming up we would do stretching and floor work type stuff but the instructor would have us close our eyes, dim the lights and blast the music. I could barely hear her and I wouldn't know how properly do something or would do it wrong and it made me feel like a jack ass. We would all be rolling around and would bump into each other and the poles because there wasn't room for everyone doing the things we would do, especially since we were supposed to close our eyes lol. I liked the studio and instructor but not the teaching style at all. I like to learn at my own pace and for some moves I progress quicker and others would prob take more time for me. If I can't get something down or feel like i need instruction or a spotter then I will purchase private lessons. To each their own!
CrazyKosters, I can relate to almost everything you said!! I love the studio, but I just need more space and can afford it between classes and gas..
