Does anyone get headaches (like sharp pains over their eyes) when inverting?? I just started to invert so I'm not sure if it is just because I'm scared and straining or if I should go to a doctor?? Any suggestions?

Do you normally suffer from headaches or sinus problems? I have inner ear troubles regularly, and suffered dizziness when I began inverting. I still do from time to time but not as severe as in the beginning. If you normally have ear/nose/throat or sinus issues, inverting may take some getting used to. If it continues, or is severe, I would definitely see a doctor.

Check to make sure your exhaling as you invert, its common to hold the breath and not exhale. Also while upside down keep breathing. Holding the breath can cause headache and high blood pressure as well. One more thing you may want to try: drink water!! I can get sharp headaches from dehydration if I work out and especially if I go upside down. Drinking a quart of water throughout the day keeps them away.

Another thought...in response to the possibility that it might be sinus related...have you considered trying neti pot? I know it's a bit unpleasant, but it can flush your sinuses, keeping them healthy as well as clear if you get alergy problems. Might help with inverts as well as other things!

I'm not a doctor/medical professional. If your situation allows you to see a doctor, go and discuss. There are hundreds of different types of headache patterns and they all have their own causes and management. A headache journal can be helpful. You can log the headache, duration, severity, location and type of pain and take it to your doc. Inverts require a lot of exertion. Take note if you get a similar type headache when you do other things that are really taxing. Or is it only if your head is below your heart etc. All that can help your doc. Take care of yourself and let us know how things go. Sometimes its good just to get the 'all clear' to continue hard exercise or reassurance its nothing to be concerned about, etc. Sorry you are getting head pain, I hope it stops.
