If you have carpet...

If you have carpet where your pole is...would it be possible to maybe cut some plywood or something and cut out a little space for the pole (see the picture I attached) and then buy some kind of tile (maybe even hardwood floor tiles...like the cheap vinyl-ly ones) and stick them on top so there is kind of a cheap "stage"...wouldn't really call it a stage, but you girls who have hardwood floors or vinyl, it looks a lot easier to spin around the pole... What do you girls think? I can't get a Platinum Stage because it would suffocate my living room & my boyfriends friends wouldn't like it for Monday Night Football =) SORRY! I'm just so excited to be setting up my pole space!!! =)

I understand your excitement and I'm all for it because I'm trying to work on my pole space too! I have carpet and I envy everyone with hard wood floors. I've even thought about doing what you're talking about but I'm not "do-it-yourselfy" at all and any little project like that that I try to do comes out looking crappy and gets tossed. If I owned my home I retile the whole damn room but sadly.....that's not an option LOL.

SissyBuns...I hear ya!! I rent a townhouse, but luckily my landlord who is like 80 years old loves me and my boyfriend and he comes to my dad's strip club so he's all for me getting a pole...lol. I wish I had hardwood floors sooo bad!! But I lived in my moms house until I was 18 and her entire house is hardwood floors...So there were times where laying on carpet is a luxury lol. I think the wood idea would work because when I am done with my practice, I can just pick them up and put them in the closet...that way they aren't in the way or anything...I'm like you...I'm not a DIY girl either...I had a tough time at Lowes today trying to buy the hardware to hang the new mirror I got...But my boyfriend is pretty handy and I think he would do it for me...If I figure out how to get it all in motion, I'll take pictures of it for you and detail what I did that way you could maybe try it from directions? 😀

Whoever said to put tape on the bottom of their heels when working with carpet is a GOD. I do it, and my pivots are as buttery delicious as they were on linoleum.. I'm serious. Packing tape. On your pleasers.

Packing tape! That's awesome! I ripped the soles of my pleasers, they were the cheaper ones, and it worked, but I've been wanting to buy some thigh high boots and didn"t want to have to alter them. Thank you!!! I must have missed the packing tape post 😮) Yay I can't wait to get my boots now!!!

I'm definitely gonna try, thanks for the tip!!! 🤸 I also missed the original post...

My Follow-up: I taped clear packing tape under my ballroom shoes and it works like a charm!!! 👍 👍 🥂 🥂 🥂 Turning now works so fantastic that I need to get used to the extra angular momentum... almost missed the pole, lol!! Dizzy now.... 😬 Thanks to whoever originally suggested this and Amcut for reminding us 🥂

Hmmmm I wonder if you could use duct tape to make kind of a cuff to slip over the ball of your foot? You know like the sweat bands that one member (sorry I can't remember who) wore on her feet. They make all kinds of cool colors now, I wrapped my hula hoop in shiny silver and purple duct tape. I wonder if that would work? 🤔 😕

Hmmmm I wonder if you could use duct tape to make kind of a cuff to slip over the ball of your foot? That sounds very uncomfortable, Veena 😕 I assume you talk about bare feet and not heels? Have you considered getting something like FootUndeez or Dance Paws? They are stretchy half-socks (toes sticking out) with a leather patch under the ball of the foot. They even have cute printed ones or with rhinestones. Might need some tape in addition, mine at least don't go that well on carpet by themselves. With mention of creating a hardwood floor like dance floor/make your own stage- my gears got to turning. I've been pondering this idea for several days now and have decided to take on such project of my own for several reasons... 1). After todays rug burn experience. 2). In my sexy shoes I don't feel like I can move elegently 3). My pole room is going to become the babies room eventually- later than sooner if I can help it, so therefore pole will go out in garage and poling on dirty floor is not appealing to me at all- so Whalla! Instant dance floor will provide safe haven for me to dance on and place mats over. I've even considered gearing this up to adding special LED lighting and chaser lights- ofcourse having an IT/mechanical engineer as a bf will help in this process. His latest projects are being devoted my pole room- including upgrades in the video system with mounts for optimal camera placement, all of which I informed him of tonight...hehe. 😉

Hallelajah! 🥂 That shipping tape on the bottom of your shoes REALLY WORKS! I gave it a try this morning, and I could barely keep my balance on my pirouettes, I was like grease lightnin'! 😎 Not used to that, with my big fluffy carpet. Now I have to practice more to re-adjust to this new slippery phenomenon.

THE PACKAGING TAPE SUGGESTION IS GENIUS!!!!!!! 🥂 I was skeptical that this $1.99 solution would work. But, it is an amazing success. A couple of strips on the bottom of my Pleasers and my studio space was instantly transformed to dance nirvana. For reference, I am on berber carpet...and now, cloud 9! Thank you so much for the tip.

Ok found what you guys say about dancing on carpet. I'm just starting so will be dancing in my bare feet for a while anyway. And we have carpet. Veena's suggestion about tape on the feet is along the lines of what i was thinking, but would ballet pumps be a more practical (and attractive!) solution? I havent used these in years (you know the flat pink ones with the elastic across them?), I think they would be slippy, and therefore suitable for poling on carpet? Would these be good for poling in, or would they prevent pole-foot contact?? What do you think?

Thanks Gatorgirl, I didn't realise they were suede on the sole. Guess i'll just have to persuade bf that i need to invest in some nice heels 🙂 and use socks in the meantime!

My ballet slippers always had suede on the bottom, so I don't think they would be very slippy on carpet. When I dance without shoes on my carpet, I just wear socks and I slide all over the place! I had a friend of mine who tried the plywood piece under the pole. It worked great for a while, but then after some time playing on the pole and tightening it when necessary, the plywood started to bow a bit in the middle from the pole. The edges of the plywood started coming up off the floor and were no longer flat on the carpet. I don't know if she did something wrong or the plywood piece just wasn't big enough, but she eventually removed the piece of wood and went back to just carpet. I told her about the packing tape on the shoes and now she doesn't have any problems! How bout a hinged stage with a snug hole in the center? two 4x8s with 4 piano hinges on the seam and a half circle in each to make the diameter of the base of an xpole if thats what you got, lil mynx i have no clue how to do that I've never seen one up close. but i'm sure the same theory would work.

On your pleasers. Yes, I taped my shoes and now I don't have a problem with the grip on the bottom of my shoes. AMEN 4 that!
