So I've never had my own pole before. The most I've done is messed around with a pole they used to have at a club near me. But I've wanted to learn properly for years and I've finally booked myself onto Becca Butcher's UK masterclasses in February, and I'm also looking to get some regular lessons. I'm also looking around for my own pole ๐ I figured I'll just do it anyway and if my mum doesn't like it then to hell with her, I'll just do it when she's at work anyway lol. But to get to the point - I decided on an X-Pert TG 50mm, seeing as 50mm is industry standard, right? I don't think I'll ever work in the industry but I love things that are 'industry standard' hehe, comes form being an artist and never accepting low-quality pens/sewing machines/whatnot XD Then I heard 45mm is easier to grip. So I'm thinking maybe I should have one of those? But then one of my compulsions is to always learn things the harder way - because then, when you go to the easier way, you'll be even better. As opposed to learning on the easy one, and then finding it really hard on the other one. That's how I do pretty much everything. For example, I learned inline skating in skates two sizes too big with 2 pairs of thick socks, and when I finally put on the proper size, the sense of control, speed, lightness and agility was amazing. So technically I should be using a more difficult pole. Meaning the 50mm...? But then pole can be much more dangerous and I shouldn't be taking any chances, so maybe learn on a 45 first!? And the fact that I sweat like a fountain... I don't know!! I also decided I want a gold one lol. But that's only titanium as far as I'm aware. Which is also meant to be better grip? Again, my instinct tells me to learn on the harder one (ie chrome) so that the easier one will be super easy if I'm ever on it, but perhaps safety demands that with my sweatiness if I don't want to fall on my butt/spine/head I should take the easier one first and build up. I'm also thinking about my budget - if I get the job I'm going for (or any, for that matter) I'll be able to get another one at some point, but if not, it'll be the end of March or Nov/Dec before I can do that. So I don't really know =S Anyone got any experience of this? If it helps, I'm about 5' 5", weigh 133lbs and am working my way down to 115-120lbs too. Dunno if that should make a significant difference to my grip...
