the first time i ever tried to invert on my good side, i did it. ive since progressed to letting go with both hands and getting into bat but i try to invert on my other side and i cant even get my feet up to the pole. its just a lift about 3-4ft off the ground and a flop back down to the ground. I keep trying but what can i do?

A friend and I joke about our weak side as "The Dark Side." I think this feeling is normal...at least for me anyway. It is very good that you want to even train both sides! I didn't even want to bother with my weaker side and had much more work cut out for me later when my jade split was better on my dark side. Just like with training my good side, I would have the pole on my dark side and do the ab crunches. Work up to as many as I could, and then start to tip my hips and drop my head back and feet back down. I believe this happened over days or weeks, certainly not hours. I started pole with literally NO upper body strength! After a while when you can do an air invert, the gemini climb in veena's lessons is my personal favorite strength builder, mostly because it works both sides. That being said, that is far down the road...I didn't start those climbs unitl almost 1 year into pole dancing--a few months ago, I think. Have fun inverting on your good side and just build up your dark side slowly. Congrats on inverting!! 🥂

If you cannot do it on both sides than I wonder if you are inverting correctly in the first place. You should stand with your hips in front of the pole and arms tucked tight with your hands no higher than your head. Bring your knees to your chest STILL KEEPING YOUR ARMS TUCKED TIGHT TO YOUR BODY (I have this capped because this is usually where people just let go with their arms). Lean your head back and straighten your arms trying to bring your hips to the pole....keep tucked in a ball. Once your body is in position straighten your legs. If your arms are not tucked when you go to lean back there is no more extension and you will fail.

It's very possible that there's a fear factor. I can only walk around the pole clockwise, I can only pirrouette clockwise. I tried doing a roxy spin with my left elbow instead of the right....the bruise I got on my hip...It was scary looking to say the least. But I'm afraid of my left side because I'm afraid of messing up. Wasn't one of the featured blogs something like, "half of pole in physical strength, and the other half is getting over fear?" I'm sure if you have the proper adrenline rush or inspiration boost, you'll do it just fine :)
You'll get there, I only just got inverting on my weak side two days ago with a spotter helping (and a lot of fear!). Give it a few tries each practice maybe and one day it'll just happen! Xx

The hardest part for me is remembering which leg goes where once I get inverted on the dark side. :) also my V is lopsided on the "other" side. Everything about pole is a struggle. :) good luck!

Everything about pole was a struggle for me at first too. Nothing came easily and I always got nasty bruises. I was not breathing properly and would hold my breath while trying to pull up. I pulled a muscle on the inside (my dr called it the sirloin) and I started to hurt my back (my rhomboid was really sore). That was around the time I signed up for veenas lessons I kinda hit the ground running from there. Sure I'd strain something here and there but I didn't feel lost. Do you have her lessons? She knows a lot about the muscles and why things get off balance. She really is very accessible too is you ever just want to send her an email. Everytime I could not figure something out, or had a lopsided problem, she could tell me what was wrong and which muscles I needed to work. She is fabulous like that and I attribute very much of my accomplishments with pole to Veena (her lessons and tips) and the other veneers here. You are in great company and it's great to have a peace of mind in knowin that it is perfectly normal. My dark side got so much better but it happened over time. Kudos for working both side now in the early stages!!!!

I have a weak side too and I can invert from that side but it is sloppy and ugly I am working on fixing that but it it always seems to mean less time working on new moves. I have a pole at home but I like to be in the studio when I am working on new moves and on my weak side. I don't have a crash mat at home but it might be a good investment so I can learn new moves at the studio and work on my weak side at home. I also feel like I have brain damage sometimes trying to change sides I can't seem to turn the move around to my other side without a lot of thought. I stand there and think then I turn it around to my other side and say if this hand goes here on the left then it will go here on the right and so on. I have trained my muscles on one side of my body and they work great that way I don't have to think about them but I have neglected the other side to advance quickly. My instructors are constantly preaching about muscle memory and how it will become automatic and they are right so it would have been better for me had I worked both sides to start. Even the ladies in my class that work both sides still talk about having a side that is weak not that I can tell but they can.
I have a similar problem except I can get up into an invert but it just feels so wrong. I can't do any inverted moves on that side
