I can't dance!

I can't! I have been trying to make one damn dance video and I can't! I'm suffering from severe dancers block! I get up to the pole...sashay for a few seconds...and then forget everything I know! LOL I literally just stand there looking at her like she's a stranger I just met. LMAO! It's quit commical actually but scary because I have a competition to get ready for and I need to be dancing and working on tying moves together and this is scaring me. I think it's the pressure of the competition that has me going loco. I really really really hope this is temporary....really....LOL

hahaha I have the EXACT same problem! So I write down the moves I want to accomplish in the "dance" and then scour the videos lookung for cool combos for floor/trasnaition - you would be amazed how many things you can com up with if you write them down - I am going to write them on a posterboard in large print so I can see them while I'm doing it. You've got some great moves, you'll do fine - That is so cool that you're doing miss xpose!!!

So I take it you didn't make a vid??? lol. It is very frustrating when you want to dance but your mind won't let you! and that's just it..it's not that you can't dance..you just won't let yourself... A few things that help me... put my pole in a room that makes me feel comfortable...for me it's my living room make sure you have music that makes you feel good, gets you excited and makes you want to move put on something sexy...it's really hard to dance sexy (if that's what your going for) when you are wearing shorts and a t-shirt. For me I have to really be into the moment...which unfortunatly comes and goes on its own will! lmao! Your gonna do great at the competition! 😀

Sissy i've seen you dance (liberian girl!!) & you are hot!! But this happens to me too when i purposely try to make a dance video.. i think too much about what i want to do & so all my moves end up being completely out of sync with the music & i just do awkward stuff! I agree with both sabrina's & roxy's advice.. another thing that really helps me is to tell myself that i'm NOT making a dance video, relax, and just listen to the music. 😛 Seriously, the more pressure you put on yourself to perform, the stiffer your body will be & the blanker your mind will get. Just listen to the music &l let your body start moving without setting any "demands" on yourself. 😂 Doing this in combination with what sabrina & roxy said might really help! have you thought about making a choreography? 🏴‍☠️

This might sound weird but try dancing and doing floor work first without the pole or taping it...just dance to dance...then add in the pole...and no video...then add in the video. Works for me...well not the video part LOL as I am terrified of video - but the dance part 😉

I think you're right Az. I think it's because I "know" I'm trying to make a video LOL. If I was just free poling I probably wouldn't have this issue LOL. My pole is in my comfy pole zone, but I have been having major music issues because all of ym music got erased off of my phone and I use the pandora app but it doesn't always play what I want to hear but I just have to go with what's on and that works sometimes but not lately. Not when I'm trying to do something specific. I've been meaning to do the exact same thing you mentioned Sabrina. I want to get a big ass dry erase board that I can glance over at when I go blank LOL. I could choreograph something I suppose. I can usually just turn on music and go though 🙁 it's just been a bad pole week for me all aorund...I'll be too busy to pole for the next few days. Maybe a little break will do me good.

If I'm working on some choreography, I always always start with a song (which may be difficult if your music's disappeared). I listen to it on repeat (often when I'm walking to work in the morning) and start to imagine what moves go with which bits of the music and actually start the choreo process in my head. Then once I get to the pole, it's a case of checking to see what of the brain-based routine actually works in reality and looks good and just filling in the gaps. From what I've seen online though, it's not always that common to work in so closely with the music (eg. people just dance and the music is secondary) but that's just the way I roll. I know that some of the tutors in our studio suggest taping yourself freestyling to a song a couple of times and then watching it to pull out what looks/good/works for you etc. Good luck with whatever you end up doing anyway - competition=exciting! 👍

I actually get the crap scared out of me on a daily basis because my co workers know what songs I'm zoned out to by now. they delight in creeping up behind me. I've also been caught swishing around to the music on my iPod while in my little lab room. 😳
