I'm getting nervous...

StellarMotion started this discussion ·

So I've been getting ready for a performance that I'm doing on Sunday. But I'm having a very strange problem. While most of myadvanced moves are in good condition, I'm having some difficulty with, of all things, thigh pain when doing beginner moves like the inverted thigh hold and Scorpio. Another problem is that even after I wash my hands and swab my pole, I still slide down in my split grip and twisted grip stuff, and don't have enough time to do Aysha, Straight Edge and jackknife combos before my lower hand is at the base of the pole. If the problem were slippery pole, then my thighs shouldn't feel so friction burnt. If the pole were too sticky, though, then I would be able to hold my handsprings, twisted grips, and split grips just fine. Right? I do not, for the life of me, understand what the problem is. These moves haven't been painful to do for many months. I thought my thighs had toughened beyond this point. I do not feel that I am over-practicing because I give myself one or two days break in between practices. The only thing that comes to mind is that it might have to do with practicing while the steam radiators are running at my apartment. Maybe it puts too much vapor in the air, and this makes my thighs too vulnerable and increases the moisture of my palms? I am noticing a lot of flesh on the pole and I don't normally "shed" so much. I have no idea, but I am open to all insights and suggestions. I need to be ready to perform on Sunday, and these issues are causing me to become afraid that I will fail. And quite honestly, without inverted hand grips and thigh holds, I don't know enough moves to make a routine out of. If all else fails, if this keeps up, I know I can tolerate the pain until the performance is over, and then plunge into a cool bath after taking a few ibuprofen. But I would prefer to find a way to keep these issues from being such big problems in my practices. All diagnostic insights and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
