How to buy heels

Hi everyone. Pretty new to SV and poleing in general... Started a few months ago but studio lessons are so expensive where I live, I bought a pole and supplement once a week studio lessons with Veena's awesome videos! They rock at a fraction of the cost! :) Anyway, I'd like to try and purchase some heels but I'm mostly a flipflops kinda gal most of the week. I've never been one to walk in heels, never mind dance in 'em. What should I look for? Thick heels? Thin stilettos? How tall should they be? What's a good height to start in? Anything else I need to know? I don't live in the states, so I won't be familiar with your chain stores and such, and I usually don't buy shoes on line as it can be pretty hit or miss... Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated! Thanks :)

Hi there! And welcome to SV! I started poling a few months ago as well and I love dancing in my heels. I started with a 7inch heel, but it seems you may not be very comfortable in something that high. I will say that the shoes I have (pleasers) are very sturdy for being 7inches. I've had plenty of heels that were 4-5inches and very wobbly. That's the best part about having dancing shoes! They're sturdy and are easy to dance in. I think you should try to find something in the 3-5inch range. I personally enjoy the pleaser brand, but I know they have other options like Juliet and Ellie shoes. Also, when you get your dance shoes, they should fit tightly but not too tightly where you toes are hanging off. You should be able to tell if your shoes are too tightly (but like I said, they do fit slightly tighter than regular heels). I personally enjoy buying shoes online (I really enjoy amazon.com) but if you aren't familiar with that sort of buying, you should look for stores that have dancewear or maybe an exotic/sex shop. Thicker heel would be more stable. My first pair I bought from a shop (at a vastly inflate price) were 6" Pleasers. Can't remember the style number but they were clear heels and clear uppers (608 seems to ring a bell) There's advice out there on buying your first pair - I think www.highheels.com.au (?) has some aimed at beginners (as far as wearing heels goes). Definitely choose ones with an ankle strap as they will be more stable. 6" heel with a platform means the actual heel part isn't that high in comparison.

I feel ya. I am a long distance runner as my primary activity, so it's important to me that I don't stress my calves unnecessarily with dangerous-but-sexy shoes. I found that a good starter option is go-go boots. Here's the pros: relatively low heel (mine are 3"), vinyl material is sticky as hell (confidence!), thick heel, covers your lower legs and warm in winter (you can hide legwarmers inside!), inexpensive. Plus, I don't tan, and so I enjoy having a bit more coverage on my extremely white legs! Cons: they're not super-sexy. But I still think the go-go boots are a perfect combination. If you really want to go the shoe route, I have also tried Juliet by Pleaser. These are an acceptably high heel (sexy) without being impractical or extremely dangerous.
