Know what I'm talking about? That awkward moment where you've got flexed feet and heels coming toward each other? I would love to 'fix' it but could use some guidance!

Haha, I know what you are talking about but I don't know how to fix it. Have you tried doing one straight leg and one bent, until up? It's easier to me to tell one leg to point than both legs to point both feet. Im still pretty shoddy at cartwheel mount, so Im pretty sure I don't really have any authority to say anything useful :-)

I laughed so hard when I read "leprechaun legs" because I had to stop and think of what that was, and the image in my head was hilarious. what a perfect description.... haha! :)
I would say to concentrate on the leading leg first. Keep it straight and keep it pointed, don't worry about the second leg until you've got the hang of the leading leg being straight and pointed. Try starting small again, don't try to go straight into the cartwheel mount otherwise old habits will come back and your legs will come in again. Do small swings, keeping that leg straight. And increase to the cartwheel mount when you are used to the feeling of having a straight leading leg.
THANK YOU! Helpful tips for sure. Glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I tell you--I did not even realize I had this habit. I never do the move in my freestyles because I don't feel like I can flow into it well (which is want I want to remedy) and I never do it in heels (again, remedy). So recently I did a freestyle and threw that in after the song ended, because I had heels on and wanted to try it in heels, so I got it on video. I will find it and get a screenshot. You will get a good laugh. ;)

I think things like this tend to work themselves out once you're aware of them. So from here on out you'll be hyper-aware of pointing your toes, and your toes will point. That's the way it is for me when it comes to new(ish) moves, anyway. I think they're all cool, and then I see a video and think :-/ But then I concentrate on whatever problem area got exposed and that helps. It's why I love to record myself, even though sometimes I hate to watch my training sessions! PS - Those are BAD-A$$ shoes.
I think you're right, polergirl. I also think the shoes make it worse, because it's harder. Thanks, I LOVE these shoes! :)

That's a fantastic name for it!!! haha Everyone has great tips. I don't have much to add, just keep at it. I will said that doing a cartwheel, (head goes forward and down) is usually easier to master straight legs then the handspring, (head back and down)!
(and besides the wonky legs I know my outfit doesn't match) ;)
I'm sure I look worse when I do it... The only thing I can say is, "Top 'o the mornin' to ye"
just updating to say...I have improved this a TON. Need to be conscious of it or I will revert back, but being aware of it I can keep both legs straight. Hurray!!

Veena is right, doing the mount that direction, which I call handspring mount (even though it is more like a back walkover) is considerable more difficult for most people than is a cartwheel mount. Also, shoes are heavy and tend make it more difficult. I am sure being mindful of keeping your legs straight will make a considerable difference. I like to think that I am leaping with straight legs and the pole just takes me upside down. The fun thing with the handspring is that you can go all the way over ;-).
I have hardly tried handspring mounts, but I got really close yesterday! You all get ready...I am so doing leprechaun legs for St. Patty's Day. I can't wait. ;)

I get the leprechaun legs!!! I find it unavoidable but have never been shown how to either. My husband takes photos at my shows and he just has it take them every second so the pictures end up like a flip book. I get really good shots that way but some really crazy ones too like the leprechaun legs into a cartwheel handspring!!! Lol!!!
Ok...so, you can go all the way over in a handspring? I think I have seen this in a video, but having a hard time picturing HOW. Does anyone have a link? :) Luvlee--lol.
I saw the picture and busted up laughing! I had a feeling that that was what it was, but having a visual is even better! I think it just takes time and change in technique that would help. Like you'll have to stay really mindful to at least hold one leg straight and pointed. Then maybe muscle memory will take over and then you'll be able to work on the other leg. I'm looking at this site at work and Thank God no body is really here right now. I really busted a gut! I cried a little.
Actually I think We should all (or who ever wants to participate) should take pictures dressed in Green doing our version of leprechaun legs, in honor of St. Patty's and it was inspired by the Lovely and Hilarious Adele Dazeem, lol Who saw the Oscars or even the recaps?! No in inspiration of the Lovely and Hilarious Ms. Sparrow.

found a pic, added a little limited editing (maxing out my editing skillz) and am giggling at this silliness. too bad I couldn't manipulate his hands to the 'pole'. hahah
I totally am not even near doing a cartwheel mount at this point in my poling. but I did this reverse grab position and kind of lifted my legs out to the side. I totally just flexed my feet and did a little heel click in honor of your picture. I was laughing in class when I tried it. now I come home and see the leprechaun picture, it is cracking me up.
