How to ask my landlord about pole?

Hey guys, I've just moved house and still getting settled it etc. I have more room now and would be able to fit my pole up. The only issue is that I would not do it without my landlord's permission first. I know that there's a good chance that he'll say no because he would probably think it'll damage the floor or ceiling but it's worth a shot surely. How do I bring it up with him? Have any of you done this before? I'm not sure really, maybe I won't do anything but I'm just curious. Thanks, fairy. x

Yeah, don't do it. All it does is cause silliness. 🙁 I asked my leasing office because I could not locate my joists (stupid superplaster ceiling) and all it did was delay my pole putting up for like 2-3 weeks or something AND make it so that they inspect my ceiling and floor extra close. You know your pole isn't going to damage the floor or ceiling, and if it does... you'll pay for it, lah-dee-dah. So why ask stinky landlord man?

Yeah you're right amcut, the paranoia is silly, if you put the pole up correctly it doesn't cause any damage so I don't understand the hassle with landlords. You reckon it's easier to just go ahead and put it up and not mention it to the landlord?

Hey girl! I just spoke with a friend who manages rental properties...he stated that unless your drilling holes or altering the structure you DON'T need to ask permission, it it no different that putting a piece of furniture in your house. His advice is don't bother because it will be NO because of personal preference not due to anything legal. Hope that helps! He said PUT THAT POLE UP!! LOL 😂

I had exactly the same issue in our place. Said nothing to the landlord, and so far, so good 🙂 Have fun!!

My landlord is a sick disgusting nasty creeper who makes creepy advances to all his female tenants. He found out about my pole by looking in my windows (!!!!!!!!!!) Needless to say, I am moving soon (also for other reasons but creepy landlord is a BIG reason.) I advocate not telling the landlord whenever possible after this experience. Remember you have a very limited business relationship with a landlord. You have no way of knowing if he might be a total perv. 😕 😕 😲 😲 😳

Yeah it was definitely one of those "oh my god I can't shower enough!" feelings. I mean, do I dance sexy? sure all the time. But there's a reason I'm not working at a strip club, you know? Fortunately the guy isn't dangerous, I don't think he'd like, force himself on anyone. He's just an awkward creepy creeper. What's worse? He's got a wife and two little babies 🙁

Digging up this pole to say that I have just moved house and my plan is this: Put up my pole o the exposed beam, without asking. This will involve creating an 'adapter' because the beam is very narrow. So my Dad is constructing something we can 'clamp' to the beam, that will involve no screwing or alterations to the beam in any way. This will give my X Pole dome the surface area it needs. I'll be putting it up as soon as I get my extension. I am planning to call my rental manager or send a her polite email, just before our first inspection, in which I will say something to the effect of 'just letting you know I have got a portable pole up in the living area, I haven't made any modifications to the floor, or ceiling or beam, but just thought I'd let you know so you don't get a surprise when you walk in!' Great blog post! Only thing I have to add to it is that even if you were to cause damage with the pole that cost more than your deposit amount to fix (and this is unlikely since drywall is cheap) there is usually something in the lease saying that, if repairs cost more than the deposit was, the tenant (you) pay the difference. So you don't have to worry about stiffing the landlord. Also a good thing to check your lease on the landlords visitation policy. A good landlord will never let himself in without asking once the keys are in your hand.
