Hi From Canada!....I Need some help....

I'm totally new to pole dancing, and I am addicted already. I own a Lil' Mynx Petite static chrome pole. I can do some basic things (but I don't know all the names yet, so excuse the layman's terms!) the fireman spin, the chair spin, and I can flip upside down and slowly slide down (but with both hands hanging on to the pole and ankles wrapped around...haha) I know how to properly climb the pole (put your shin up against it first and climb) but once I get up there, I cannot hold on! First off, even though my pole is clean, I am constantly sliding down. (I assume that once I gain more upper body strength I will be able to engage my core and and arms and I will be able to stay up there?) And second of all, it KILLS to try to grasp the pole between my legs so I can just sit up there! It hurts too much to hold on with my thighs cause I'm sliding and the pole is pulling, etc. Not a pretty sight! haha Will this also come as I build strength, or do I just have to suck it up and try to hold on?
