I just joined the site yesterday and love it. Im getting my first pole soon and will be setting it up in our basement. My question is, How much clearance around the pole do you recommend? We are planning on putting it in one of the corners in a 6x6 section or even 7x7. Do you think this is enough? I'm 5'5 if that helps. Thanks!

It really depends on how close it is to the wall or walls. If it is in a corner then I would think you would have two walls to avoid hitting or kicking. I have my poles set up in a 10X14. The pole I use the most is 43" from the center of the pole to the closest wall. All of the other sides have plenty of clearance. It's fine for basic spins, and some inverts, but when I do something like an Aysha I have to make sure I don't hit the wall. I had to place it like this because of the ceiling studs, but I wish it was a little further out. Placing your pole too close to a wall, other furniture, or below a ceiling fan or light, can really inhibit your ability to progress. I did have a small blade ceiling fan/light close to my pole when I first put it up. I was so worried about kicking it that I would have to invert on a certain side. I found myself not wanting to do any moves that would make me come into contact with the fan/light, so I took it down. It felt so much better not having to worry about something constantly, and I could even invert much better. It is probably best to just set up your pole, and start poling. If you are doing spins and feel "cramped up" in the space you have your pole in, then I would suggest moving it out a bit if that is possible. Good luck and congrats on getting your pole!!!!
Thanks for the reply Aly =) I have been doing some research and am considering on getting the Lil Mynx Rotator. One of my main reasons for liking this pole is because of the way it mounts. It seems easy enough to install and I can always move it if I dont like the placement. I'm also considering getting one of the colored ones instead of stainless because i keep hearing the stainless are slippery and my hands do tend to sweat. I've been watching the videos and see a lot of girls have stainless ones, but Im wondering if thats just a preference? Or are they just better for another reason.
Well now i'm torn because I have read up some more and even on one of the threads on this site, a lot of girls favor the X-Pole over the LM. Though I have seen some complaints about the X. It does sound like the X-Pole is overall probably the better pole. I would really like to do a poll and see which pole the girls on this site have.
I had a Lil Mynx pink pole (non rotating) and will tell you that anything over 8' is non usable (unless you get a custom pole). The way that the pole adjusts is a sleeve inside that extends or retracts. This is also the part that you compress to install the pole. You cannot grab this section at all plus it is not flush with the rest of the pole. I loved my mynx but I will also warn that the powder coated gets extremely sticky if there is any humidity and I mean skin ripping sticky. I now have an X. NO pole is perfect. You have to do your homework and find what is right for you and your application.

I have two X Poles...45mm and 50mm both chrome, and they are the older screw together type. If there are any studios near you, you might want to call and see what kind of poles they have, the finish on the pole, and the size (diameter). If they have the type of pole you are interested in buying, then you could go take a class to try it out.

Thanks for the info everyone! I think I have made a decision however, I'm running into an issue I hadn't thought of before. Our basement has paneled ceilings =( so now I dont know what to do. I cant put the pole in any other place in the house so this is quite frusturating.
Are the panels a drop false ceiling?
You could aways consider getting a stage pole. No issues with the ceiling, and easy to move! I have a Platinum Stages star stand alone. Only needs 6ft of space. There is a set up video on my page.

Drop ceilings usually have panels that you can move aside to revel studs above, that are wood. If there are wood beams up there, you can get a lil mynx pole and screw in a mount. Totally easy.

Yes we can move the panels out of the way and mount it to one of the beams. I thought I saw something though where girl were complaining about the stability since it does not mount from the floor. Any thoughts on this or if anyone who has one, could you tell me how stable it is? Thanks again for all the help! =]
Just wanted to let you all know, we went ahead and ordered the X-Pole Xpert in Titanium. My fiance says it will work out =] I'm super excited and very grateful for all the feedback!
