Here's how much my job sucks....

I get on studioveena from work all the time! Any day I have time to, since the day I started poling over a year ago! I watch videos, check forum messgaes, emails and even go into chat. The other day I logged onto Veena from a co-workers computer to show her my newest video. My co-workers are really cool about my poling and even somewhat interested. I even got one of them to start classes...but I digress. We go on the site. I show her all 4 minutes of my video, then we log off. The next day we come into work and her computer is gone. It's been siezed by the IMD department! Of course everyone wants to know why. What happened? The answer is "Someone was watching pole dancing and thats inappropriate." Are you serious???? I'm so pissed for a couple of reasons. #1 They were watching this particular person anyway because she shops online all day and somebody told on her. When I went on veena on her computer they used that as the reason they took her computer, but I know for a fact the website isn't a "red flag" because I go on it all the time from my own computer or whatever computer I may be at when the mood strikes. #2 wtf is so inappropriate about studioveena???? There's no nudity, no boobies, moderate ass shaking (which I myself do mostly LOL) and whatever. It's not inappropriate at all. #3 We all are called into a meeting to discuss appropriate internet usage at work. OMG! Now they've banned anything pole related. I can't even get on poleskivvies and I'm afraid to try and get on my own website. Not being able to get on my pole sites from work cuts into my pole action and participation in a major way since I do most of my dirty work...from work! So my participation will be less and i want ya'll to know I haven't abandoned you...the man is keeping me from you! Damn him!!!!!!

I have an iphone but its not the same. Plus I can't be all on my phone all day at work, but if I'm on the computer somebody could mistake me for working...so it's ok. LOL

That sucks really bad! I can't imagine why on earth they would think this site is inappropriate! Maybe webmaster knows of a cheat around the system.

Thats.... a) Insulting - who are they to blindly judge and label your hobbie? b) Disriminatory - something tells me if you were a huge football fan and went online to check player stats, or loved to cook and went to get a new recipe, or had a thing for knitting and wanted an new pattern,there wouldn't be an issue. BOO. We'll miss you sissy 🙁 🙁 🙁

you should demand they make any site about gymnastics, ballet, parkour etc banned too. cause obviously watching people having fun while they excersize is just inappropriate for work. 🙄

Well, to be real it doesnt matter if they consider it innappropiate or not, if it's not related to work they have the right to block it and there's nothing you can do, I know where I work there's some limited allowance of internet use, we all know we are not supposed to be on facebook or anything that is NOT work related, but people do it and it's tolerated to some extend, I'm sure if my boss saw me browsing veena I would get in trouble, it's just regular internet usage policy, we'll miss you Sissy! something tells me you'll find a way tho. haha.

Hey guys, If you're gutsy enough, getting around work filters is actually SUPER easy. Here's how: You basically go through a "proxy", which is a way to route your internet traffic through a third party, thus hiding either YOU from it, or IT from your supervisors. For example, you can use it to watch online TV, that is only available in the UK (when you're overseas). Because the UK website thinks you are in the UK if you use a UK proxy. And at work, you can use a proxy so the filter thinks you are visiting somethingsomething.net when really you are on StudioVeena. 😉 I know it sounds complicated but it's SOOOO NOT. You basically go to a proxy website, and the type the address of the fobidden website into an input box! The filter can't actually stop you using proxies (unless they could find and ban every single one out of the trillions available) but you might get in trouble for sneaking around the system. 😂

Hey all. Not trying to sound like a complete rain on the parade grump here-but as a business owner I will chime in with my opinions. Running a successful business is all about efficieny and productivity. If I am paying someone to complete tasks, the success of my business and them getting their paycheck demands that it be done in a timely manner. Looking at the bottom line, time is money. If everyone is completing personal tasks most of the workday on my dime-the work I have hired them to do is not getting completed. This creates bigger problems which generally turn into a lack of time management skills and as I have seen many times in the past, the adage of 'give an inch take a mile'. By no means am I implying that everyone is guilty of taking advantage,but we must also allow for human nature to settle in too. I have generally had the policy that if there is no work to complete or you are on your breaks-have at her. However, I also give the first half hour or so on a Monday morning for gab time between staff. Solves the reconnect issues after being away from one another all weekend. Hehehe. We girls need to share out details. Lol. Taking this approach over the years has always kept productivity high and kept my staff very happy too! We all need to get crap done. We all need to yak. Just keeping in mind that there is a time and place for everything. Anyhoo, just thought I would chime in with a few points. It does suck when life gets in the way of our obsessions! Hehe. I agree reenie. I think it also depends enormously on the job you do and on the person. Many people work much better if they get to 'refresh' themselves every 2 or 3 hours with 5 or 10 minutes of personal time. Just enough to read a blog post, or respond to a thread, get a cup of tea, or watch one youtube video. This is nothing new - Google in fact let's all their developer's have 20% of their work week to do their OWN projects, whatever they are passionate about, under the condition that the end result belongs to Google. This is actually where Google News, Google Adsense and Google Calculator (to name a few) were born! Also - Post It Notes were invented this way! 3M also had a 15% time culture. Of course, in these cases they are working on related projects, that may end up generating revenue, and obviously work VERY hard on company projects all the rest of the time. But the message is still there - the freedom to be creative, to take breaks, to do your own thing now and then... results in less burnout, more innovation, greater passion for the job, increased sense of trust, worth and loyalty and as a bonus you might even find a useful talent in your workers that you didn't know they had! In summary, I think YOUR approach (letting workers do their own thing on breaks, first thing on monday mornings, or if there's nothing else left to be done) is a good balance. I think completely blocking sites like hotmail, studio veena, poleskivvies, facebook etc is actually counter-productive to the end goal: an efficient workplace with motivated, happy and productive employees.

Oh exactly! I meant to add that into that post but got sidetracked as it is late, I am typing on my blackberry and to boot I am trying to get rid of one whopper of a headache. Up until I decided to return to the fitness industry, I contracted myself out as a business management peeps. I would dive in assessing company shortfalls, building repoire between staff and management etc. Mostly everything involved with these businesses was administrative stuff. Anyway to make the short form of my point(I am tired)it does completely depend on the type of work you are doing. In my fitness business, clients are dependant upon networking and social type stuff. Hehe. Makes a big difference in some of my approach. Although at this point, I only have one part time casual, she gets the best of both worlds. We have a great balance of work and play and it keeps us both happy. I hear what you are saying about the need to refresh every few hours. I get like that too when I have had to spend too much time in front of the computer. Need to restart the brain so to speak. Lol. Anyway thanks for adding what I missed.oh! And I agree. I don't think sites should be blocked either. Well unless they pose a potential threat to company servers. I have seen that happen. Whole server down cuz someone had some sort of bug get through. That stuff is way outside of my knowledge base. Foreign language. Blah. I am getting lost cuz I am tired and owie. Hopefully this reply hasn't gone too awry. I just wanted to chime in with a thanks and hear!hear!

I have 0 internet access at work. I access on my cell, but only on breaks because getting caught on your phone is grounds for termination. They even monitor how much time we spend on the intranet checking our schedules and paycheck info! Hubman is a civilian contractor for the Army, he can't even get on Victoria's Secret. He protested when that got blocked, and he was told there was no reason anyone would be going on there other then to look at pictures he was like "hello I BUY my wife stuff from there!" evidently he is the only one in the office that shops there......I feel sorry for everyone else's wife and for the ladies that work there as well. 🙁 I think they need some pole in their life 😁

... I think the more embarrassing part is.. while we could have said, "Hey, Christina. Lets not be online watching the pole dance" instead we had to seize her computer. .... that's freaking ridiculous.

MY BAD. I read it again. You so totally got some girl's computer removed, Christina! Hehehehehhehe. Hehehehhehehe. That is awful. But what's so bad about internet shopping? I''m much more inclined to sit at a desk and stare off into the distance and do absolutely nothing if my workplace needs are not attended to. I'm 10x more likely to actually work if I'm having fun surfing and feeling guilty for having fun on the man's dime. I'm going to work harrrrder. I worked at a place where even dictionary.com was blocked. I mean.. Can't a bitch make sure she's using the right word in her boring interoffice email?

I worked at a place where even dictionary.com was blocked. I mean.. Can't a bitch make sure she's using the right word in her boring interoffice email? OMG!!! 😂 😂 😂 We have limited access, the usual stuff is blocked. Like right now im covering the cashiers desk so she can have a break, Ill check some sites. At my own desk I do check the usuals at lunch and when I feel like i need a quick breather. They really see it as as long as my work is done correctly, I deserve a break. But I also have my blackberry as well so I will check stuff on there and text every now and then.

my job really sucks, i work overnight, with mandates, I'm supposed to have NO computer time, books, and NO cellphone or any reading material, no leaving work for lunch, no duty free work breaks. Every year we have to spend 2 hours in sexual harrassment / work apppropriatness to keep employees from possibly filing suits or claims for things possibly seen as innapropriate to others. We even had to take a quiz at the end. LOL Bottom line is this could make a prude feel really uncomfortable at work. Men at work may see this and speak about it and it could be an awkward position for even those uninvolved. I am playing devil's advocate??? I am really kinda nervous about the IT guy finding out that I check on my face book account several times a week. If shopping online at work was cool I'd be happy- when you do all you can do on a quiet night what else is there? I'd rather do that then spend my time talking a lot of private stuff just to keep busy and not GO CRAZY! However I chose this job and as the employee I must appear to being effecient and hard working. blah blah blah. Veena is something I would prefer to keep out of my work life. BUT I love checking in every day! I always joked to my husband about the day I could quit my job and start my dream of training to be the next leigh ann or Jeyne LOL.

Dammit sissy you would go and mess it up for everybody lol *popped in the forehead* . awwww its ok, I get my face krakd like that all the time. Its a lot of us so they just block stuff, no meeting nor a warning they just block it. Then when we go to the page and get the blockpage instead....we cant say shii but exhale(curse under our breath) and find something else to do whether it be work or not. 🙂 Plus ur like one of the popular chicks on here so you already know if anything goes down you will get a text/call/email about it lol 😀

I'm assuming this wasn't a virus/spam/spybot issue but there is always the legitimate concern that some business owners must deal with sites that put spyware, let alone viruses many employers block sites that are known for such problems...and key words may go with those sites. Not saying that Victoria's Secret or Studio Veena are the source of viruses, but anyone can upload a program to a website to create such problems. In fact, many proxy servers have issues with spyware and viruses so you have to use caution with them. We've had to block some sites simply because their spyware/cookies come up as a virus alert on our system - of course being in investments, we have a super sensitive virus program. While we allow discretionary use of the internet, we've had to block Fredericks of Hollywood because of the spyware it tries to leave on the computers. However I will say that to state that "pole dancing" sites are not appropriate is just ridiculous and maybe they are looking for an excuse to make a case against someone.

if you are allowed to do any web surfing at all while at work, i think you are lucky. i've had computer graphics/office jobs where the only thing the computer is for is work. period. my bosses were concerned about spyware, viruses, and people farting around when they are supposed to be working. it does seem unreasonable to "seize" a computer... sometimes bosses make an example of others and that person seemed expendable. So now your boss is 'alpha' and all the employees are 'put in their place'.

That's my whole point. I don't mind being told to stay off target.com and oldnavy during work hours. That's fine, I should be working anyway. But to take her computer away for like 3 days and say the whole hard drive had to be scrubbed because she was watching pole dancing? Then call us all into a meeting about it and thoroughly embarrass me like I was showing people porn or something. I have to say it pissed me off. I wanted to say "You were gonna take her computer anyway because she's online more than she does work related stuff so don't try and use my dear baby studioveena as your scape goat!". I personally don't abuse internet use. I actually don't have much time to. But she does, so I guess I picked the wrong person on the wrong day to show my video to. Now I'm afraid to surf anything with the word pole in it for fear of computer siezure and reprimand! LOL but I guess shopping online all day is ok.
