HELP!! What did I do wrong??

There is the cracked ceiling ring of death around the dome of my pole!! Its a popcorn ceiling and I guess I put too much stress on the pole? I don't know when it happened, but what do I do?? I'm going to take my pole down and check the damage.. Is there a way I can reposition it to make that not happen again? Did I tighten the pole too much? Ugh 🙁 Help please.
