Hi veeners! I need help.. I want to buy a new pole and have decided on x pole xpert in TG. Right now I have a crappy discount pole with no grip at all.. Therefore my question is: Should I choose the 45 mm or the 50 mm? Pros and cons ? Thaaaaaaaank you in advance :)

Correction of headline 45 or 50 of course :)
I have a 50 mm X-pert. I've heard that the 45 is easier to grip with your hands, though more painful for grips with other parts of your body (since it's skinnier and presumably digs in more). I've also heard that it's best to start with a 50 mm to develop your grip--but I don't know that for sure, and I'm sure other people will have varying opinions. The 50 mm has worked great for me, though!
The studio I (sometimes) go to uses 50 mm. My pole at home is a 45 mm Xpole Xpert titanium gold. My hands are on the smaller size but not exceptionally so. I find my hand grip is SOOO much better on the 45 mm. I have only done spins on the 50 mm - I have never done a pole sit or invert at the studio but at home I am doing them often on my 45mm. Since I never did other grips on the 50 mm, I can't compare the two. I will tell you that I'm totally in love with my 45mm. If I ever get another pole, I am positive I will get a 45 mm. I also think that you just learn on whatever you have so you really can't go wrong.

The 45 has worked out great for me, and I do have exceptionally small hands. Your body will probably adapt to whichever one you choose. I have never used a 50 so I can't comment which is better - either way, I bet trying out a 50 at this point would feel so weird! If you have the money and the space, you could get one of each :D A lot of other threads on here claim 50 is a "standard" but as I am not a competitor or a frequenter of studios I can't comment on that. I have both and I prefer my 45mm If you have access to both its great to work on all kinds but if you can only have one option I say go with the 45mm. I feel the smaller diameter is better for the hands, wrist, forearms...easier on the joints. Smaller comps tend to use 50s but the larger ones are leaning towards smaller 45mm poles. 🙂
50, 45 I just can't get a grip on with my legs.
Boy, am I familiar with the decision making about poles! I started with 50mm stainless steel Lil Mynx which worked for couple of years. Then i couldn't deal with lack of grip, so went crazy trying to decide between titanium gold and chrome xpert. I wondered about 50 vs 45, but more about the finish. I ended up getting 50mm titanium gold and love it. However, recently had a lesson on a 45mm and think I fell in love. I came home to practice the new things I learned on my 50mm and struggled a little bit. I have a 45mm chrome that I'm holding for someone and using it to see how it works. I am liking the 45mm and when I get another pole, it will be a 45, probably titanium gold also. Although the chrome has not been that bad. I'm very thin and was concerned leg grip on 45, however, I am able to get into and hold Advanced Plan and CKR very well, which surprised me. Although I haven't tried CAR yet,. I do need to eventually get back to my 50mm because this 45 will probably get it's new home before i am able to get a new pole :) Good luck with your new pole.

Thank you so much everybody! I Think I'm gonna go with the 45 mm TG :) However, I'm a bit worried that I will have trouble in class.. They use 50 mm chrome så that's very different form the 45 TG I think.. But hey, it's all about the progress!! And I think I will learn much more on the 45 mm with help from Veenas lessons. I was having the same issue you were having. After debating back and forth, I decided to go with a 45mm even though my studio uses the 50mm. I figured I would practice in class w/ a 50mm and also go to their open poles.. and that would be enough of 50mm practicing for me. And for more day to day practice, I practice on a 45mm at home in order to save my joints :)
I have a 45 titanium and a 50 stainless steel and my friend has a 45 stainless steel. All of them are Xpoles. I love the brand. I prefer the 45 titanium over all of the other poles I have used. It is easier to grip and I don't have significant more difficulty with other grips.

I originally bought an X pole sport 50mm as I'd never touched a pole before and read that 50mm was the industry standard, I loved my chrome pole but after a year of poling at home I decided (after reading a lot of threads om the forum) I should get a 45mm chrome X Pert . I'm so pleased I did because immediately I could do the chopper and other moves that I couldnt do before. I do have small hands and I did find my grip stronger with the 45mm. I didnt find it too hard to do CAR and pole sits etc inversions felt the same, but I do have curvy thighs lol.

I was debating between those 2 sizes too...but I was leaning towards 50mm just because it was "industry standard" and I learned on a 50mm brass (which I HATE). However, I spoke w/ a couple other polers (Natasha...Dirdy Birdy...) and they all said same thing. Short Summary of what they said - "Go for the 45mm - get comfortable and strong...then move up. If you're struggling with a 50mm, it might drive you away from poling. How can you enjoy pole dancing when you hate your pole?? Besides, all major competitions are using 45mm chrome anyway." And they are soooo right....I LOVE my 45mm Chrome...its a lot easier to grip and spin. I feel more confident dancing on the pole now (I still suck mind you...but at least the diameter is not so intimidating anymore) Hope this helps!!
