Hello from NJ!

Hey hey hey! Time for me to stop lurking SV and YouTube. I'm coming out to play! 🥂 Started poling almost 4 years ago. Joined S Factor blind and it was the best decision ever. Bought an x-pole that month and rarely touch it. (bad, i know) Soon i'll be taking a hiatus from the studio and focusing on other things. Like bikram/hot yoga, poling at home, learning new moves, and... SV! Latest fun combo i learned was a CAR into brass monkey. Latest move I'm trying to get over my fear with is the SM. I fell once and that was it for me. I do recognize some familiar faces and usernames from the S days. 😂 Was wondering where ppl were disappearing to! Glad to be in the right place. Such an awesome community.

Thanks Amy! Good to see you again. I feel like I was living in a bubble thinking all I needed was that one place. Been exploring more tricks and combos in and out of class, and now I'm feening for more. 😈 Feels good to be free! I keep hearing whispers about B&P, crunch, shockra, etc. Makes me curious but i may try SV lessons first.

Veena's lessons are great. Check out her sample lesson! If you want more info on the studios, I'd be happy to help. My friends own b&p and a lot of ex S girls go there. I was a member at crunch for a little while- my friends teach the pole classes there 🙂 and full disclosure, I teach beginner thru advanced classes at shockra. NYPD is also an option, although I've only taken one class there so I don't know too much about it.

@Veena - Thanks! Happy to be here! @Amy - Thats awesome you teach now. I've heard the most chit chat about b&p and crunch. What's your say on both? Pros and cons. Any of the studios focus on dancing like S or mostly tricks?

it would help to get a little more insight on what you're looking for. crunch- you can sign up for a day pass and try out their pole classes. they have an int/adv class monday nights @ union sq and an int/adv class on weds in park slope. there are a wide range of abilities and a more gym-like atmosphere. if you are looking to get a membership to a gym anyway, i would consider that. b&p has an introductory deal- $20 for your first class. the instructors are all very different- so which teacher i would recommend really depends on what you are hoping to learn and what your style is. generally advanced S students are about intermediate level there unless you have gone very far off curriculum and are doing strong elbow grip ayshas, aerial shoulder mounts, and handsprings, which i would consider advanced. if you cannot do an outside leg hang (gemini) i would strongly recommend that you start with a beginner/int class instead just to fill in the blanks on what you haven't been taught. with both, they teach tricks-focused classes and the idea is that you will hone your individual style on your own, without their guidance. they both have freestyle at the end of class but to a song of the instructor's choosing.

*breathes it all in* lol! Lots of things to think about! I bought a month groupon membership to Crunch so I'll try Monday or wednes. It's sounding less and less hot there, the more i hear. 🙁 Esp the gym like setting where there are gawkers. 😲 Will do pole, anti-gravity, vinyasa heat, and flow yoga. I do all except anti-gravity so that'll be an experience. Actually I'm more interested in their yoga than pole at this point. 😳 For b&p, sounds better! I'll probably try the $20. I know what you mean by "advanced S". 😂 Our 4pm has been very far off the curriculum for a while now and my teachers consider me and a few others uber advanced. I can do all except aerial SM bc I fell once in L4 and refuse to go back into it. Hmmmm I can do suicide switches (Gemini/hip hold/Scorpio) and my latest combo is the aysha > straight edge > open brass monkey > flag down and catch into CAR > bridge. I'm looking to broaden my combos and learn new stuff like TG and rubber aysha. Who would you recommend? Or which class? And boooooo!!! No more choosing songs? 🤔 😢

not sure what classes fit your schedule- i would say that any of the int/adv classes, or any open level class with marlo or kyra would be what you're looking for. lauren and steven's classes are very choreo based. and no, no more choosing songs... lol S is the only studio where you do that... where else do you spend 45 min of every class freestyling? anti grav at crunch is great but the classes fill up quickly so you should try to get there at least 30-45 mins before class starts to guarantee yourself a spot.

Cool, thanks! Will check out Marlo or Kyra. I def want someone that would push my edge and kick my butt, a la Seraphine/Barbara. And I'm sad now. Don't you miss the choosing and dancing? Or do you get your improv time since you're a teacher? Thanks for the heads up, re: anti-gravity. I'm ALWAYS late for yoga.... always. 😳 By any chance, do you know which of Crunch's classes are most similar to core flow?

Awe thats nice you still see your Saturday friends. I never tried flight night, even durin my hiatuses, but I may start up. Sounds fulfilling. 😂 Core flow and vinyasa flow are similar but different. Core flow is more advanced with poses and requires a lot of core/upper body strength and flexibility. I do a mix of vinyasa and bikram in my hot yoga class. It might be Crunch's flow class. Will ask around before going soon.
