Handspring, Cartwheel, Twisted grip

Hello Ladies and gents 😀 I have found a place to have a little pole play for the first time in over a year! yay! 🥂 I can't count how many video's i've watched on here and youtube of all you guys - jealous much!? lol The thing is, I'd like to throw myself into it, and by throw I mean I want to Try the twisted grip, There's two things possibly standing in my way though... The lack of dancing I have done and the fact the pole is a 45mm (I'm used to 50mm) I did have a few quick inverts on the 45mm and It was fine, I was in jeans and a jumper and still survived, So, how hard is the twisted grip, do you guys think I should break myself in before trying something totally new? I also would like to know which one you find easier... handspring, cartwheel invert, or the twisted grip? Much love guys! xxx

Hey Tara!!! Glad that you finally found a place to pole! I would say that since it has been a year since you "really" poled I would not jump right into the twisted grip...it takes a tremendous amount of strength and flexibility in the wrist and forearm and a few people have gotten seriously injured from trying the tg when they weren't quite ready. Maybe go through all your moves/tricks, work on a bit of strengthenig. I'm sure you can probably nail all the stuff you used to do and it will take you no time at all to be back 100%! You're a great dancer so be smart about how you approach the tg! I would suggest doing the mounts in this order...1. cartwheel 2. handspring 3. tg . I do find the tg to be more secure than the others but the entry and demand on the body is more extreme (especially if your lifting into it). I can't wait to see more vids from you!! 😀 As far as the 45mm vs 50 mm...I find that any type of hand grip is easier to hold on the 45mm...and I practice almost soley on a 50mm. I can hold inverted split grips forever(at least it seems) on a 45mm 😀

Thankyou 🙂 after posting this I actually read an older post about V hurting herself, I guess i'm just excited to pole again and wanna get a new move down, maybe the tg isn't the best move to go with... I'm sure i'll come up with something. SO excted about having a real go on the 45mm though 😀 Might have to beg if i can record a video, even if it's 30 secs long - it's something! 🥂

When I first started on the TG, I went into it from an inverted crucifix rather than as a mount. This way if anything feels unstable, my legs were there to catch me. Also, I think any damage to the wrist happens when kicking up from he floor at the moment when all the weight goes on your hands. By being inverted already, putting your hands in the right position and then slowly letting your legs off the pole minimized the shock and lets your wrists get use to the position slowly. I'm sure you'll get right back onto the pole no problem and in no time, you'll forget you've ever been off the pole at all!
