Hey guys, I'm not sure WHERE this would be appropriate to post but I figure if I can't ask the girls on the studio veena site, who can I ask? We all know pole dancing can be...well, revealing...what with the tiny boyshorts and all! I was just curious what everyone does to keep themselves "in shape"! Personally, I think waxing is the way to go, unfortunately it's expensive to get it done so I usually end up shaving unless for a special occasion. Does anyone out there wax themselves? Any tips? Just curious 😳 Fleur

I do my own waxing...It's not that hard...I do my own full brazillian LOL My husband thinks it's hilarious that I'm that flexible! HaHa...any way I use salon quality wax and non woven strips...I buy the applicators at walmart in the craft section because they're less expensive. Basically make sure the hair isn't longer than 1/4 inch other wise you need to trim it. make sure you don't have lotion on and use a very light dusting of talc or baby powder to protect the skin. Just do small sections at at time because it doesn't take any longer and usually does a better job. Because ingrown hairs can be a problem with waxing there is an inexpensive product you can get in salons or order on line called PFB Vanish...fantastic stuff it just rolls on after waxing and I usually use it a few days before as well. i fully wax myself too. but i use a brand of soft hot wax that they dont carry in the US. however, since i have to wait a month between waxes, i sometimes shave once in between.. also i've heard it's best to wax right after your menstruation ends, because hair tends to grow faster during that time 😀

For those of you ladies that like to wax, I'm going to mention there are epilators out there that do a great job. (Its a hand held shaver-like machine that has around 40 rotating tweezer like things.) I will not go back to shaving my legs, or the bikini area ever again,this device can pull the hair when it just surfaces, for example 1mm, so you wouldn't have to wait a couple weeks, and it usually works on flatter skin surfaces so you'll still need to wax the super hard to reach areas.

I dont and never have waxed although i am open to ther idea i have heard sugar wax kits hurt less as they stick less to th skin and target the hair more there are hair removal creams (bad smell, but no pain and no hair for 4-7 days) shavin is quick and easy just be sure to use atleast a 3 blade razor and i personally find shave gel much better than cream

I have tried everything 😕 .....but never a Brazilian wax... and only the at home kits. So here is my experience with at home hair removal.....PAIN 😠 they have only hurt and never gotten all the hair. I ended up with bleeding bald patches among all the hair that was still left. 😲 I was not a happy camper. I had the same issue with the creams and nice bright red rash to go with my sexy new patchy look. LOL I just shave now. I like to use a mens razor and hair conditioner...yes conditioner, the cheap stuff works great. I like it better than using shaving gel.

I'm a waxed convert for "pits and bits". Legs are shaved - when I can be bothered! 😂 Shaving is fine, but it's the cuts, nicks and stubble that can be problematic. the trick is to find a good waxer to prevent the pain. A good one will apply pressure once they've removed the strips / hardened wax. I'm frightfully allergic to most waxes except "lust" (bright barbie pink plastice stuff), therefore I have to get professionally done, or else I get eczema, in a very bad way.... (had my legs waxed prior to my wedding and was very glad it was a floor length, fishtailed gown, my legs were covered in itchy red lumps, not pretty 😮 ). To prevent ingrown hairs, use "scrub gloves", which you can get at most cheap $2 shops (5 and dime for those not in NZ?). These exfoliate the skin and remove the dead cells that can assist ingrowns. The extra cost for a professional wax is worth it for the results, esp if you are allergic to the usual products. I can recommend Mode on Tory, for those in Welly, NZ. They are the best. Epilators are great, mine's been used a few times, but I'm not totally high maintenance.

Hi All! Mary Mary, Quite contrary, How does your lady-garden grow? I've been using an epilator. It's not as sore as waxing, but easier if the hair is 1/4" or just 2 or 3mm short, so usually I shave first, and then two - three days I can use my epilator. Being a firm believer in the 'Big Pants theory' (alot like the big bang only with more elastic) I'm only triming my lady garden though, not into the whole nothing there. I like a reminder that I've gone through puberty and it's not something I have to repeat. Nx

Waxing is much much cheaper in Brazil than in the US or in the UK, so when I am in Brazil (like now!) I go to the parlor from time to time, which is great, but having lived in the UK for 5 and 1/2 years I've relied mostly on: 1) an epilator; 2) home waxing (water soluble ones - like veet - are the ones I find easiest to use). Epilators don't do a job as good as waxing, as you have to do touch ups more often, but they are mess-free, cheaper in the long run and easy to use, so they became my best allies really.

hearing about all this waxing makes me want to try it! but then i read veena's post and was like, "OH GOD THE PAIN!!!!!!!"....i just shave down there, same as veena, conditioner or whatever liquid soap i have laying around 🙂

I'm glad you brought this up - it's something I wanted to know but never dared ask about! Hair is the bane of my life - I can barely keep on top of it. I used to shave, but the stubble drove me crazy, and having to shave every couple of days just caused rashes. I tried Blitzblank which is a depilatory cream designed for "down there", but it never dissolved the hair properly, so I used to shave then Blitzblank in the hope of killing off the roots, but I couldn't be bothered hanging round in the bathroom for 10 minutes with my legs open or tiptoeing around like a baby with a wet nappy (diaper). Tried epilating my legs once but it was so darn painful I did one half-leg one Saturday afternoon and the other one the following weekend. Never picked one up again, although I do have friends who swear by their epilator for everywhere. If I couldn't handle it on my legs there was no WAY it was going anywhere delicate 😲 Plucked up the courage (ugh, awful pun, please excuse me) to try waxing my legs and haven't looked back, tried the pits but it made me bleed, however bikini line works fine and the fuzz in front, but I can't get close to me bits, the hair is too resiliant and the skin is too sensitive. HOT TIP my pal once mentioned that teething gel works a treat as an analgesic before waxing - I agree but it still hurts too much to wax those bits. So I wax my bikini line/fuzz in front and shave the rest. What do fellow Brits use to prevent ingrowing hairs?

I go to the salon for the FULL wax. I don't go for the Brazilian because my tush isn't particularly hairy and the whole idea of it kind of makes me laugh. When I lived in Miami Beach, it was so common, so main-stream that no esthetician would even blink an eyelash. And so therefore, it was cheap. I went to a very inexpensive place that charged $20 for a bikini wax. They would sprinkle baby powder on you, spread on the wax, fan you to quickly dry the wax, tear if off (usually painlessly), and then immediately apply some pressure to alleviate the "sting". 10 minutes later, I'd walk out as bald as the day I was born! It really didn't hurt at all. BUT, if I went in when I was premenstrual, it definitely hurt more. And for the first week or so, I'd rub Rescue Remedy all over the waxed area and have NEVER gotten an ingrown hair. There is also a product called Tend Skin that's supposed to prevent ingrowns but I've never used it so I can't vouch for it's validity. Many of my friends (with better bank account balances!) have been raving about laser hair removal. It's very expensive, but they all say it's worth it. It's "permanent" but you will probably have to have touch-ups. Supposedly there is a "rest period" in between laser removal sessions, so it's a real investment both in money and time. If I were to win the lottery, I'd definitely give it a try. But until then, I'm very happy with waxing!

i've tried the elipitatior, and it HURTS! looks like an electric shaver but its hundreds of little tweezers inside. i did part of one leg, closing my eyes and wincing. I couldn't even do the other leg! I have never waxed, I just shave. But once i'm out of school and get a job, the first thing i'm spending my money on is PERMANENT LASER HAIR REMOVAL. I have really thick almost black hair. I shave my legs and everything in the morning, and by the afternoon u can start to feel stubble. Its such a pain. Its probably expensive, but i would never have to buy mens razors or conditioner again (haha veena funny we use he same thing!) And it will have a lot of time and hassleeee. So in the long run tis worth it. Think about it....never have to shave again??? Sign me up!!!

I had laser hair removal done. It take several months to complete and is quite painful. It doesn't get everything but is much better so all you have to do is some light shaving. It can get expensive to do though depending on how many sessions you get done.

Something I remembered this morning, well, a couple of things. Firstly, the worst pain with a Brazilian is the front, where you'd usually trim for a bikini wax. The rest really doesn't hurt that much. In fact, armpits hurt far more along with anywhere close to a bone. Secondly, take 2 x aspirin and 2 x paracetamol 20 minutes prior as this will reduce the inflammation and cut the pain. Most importantly, go mid cycle, around the time you'd be ovulating as the pain is pretty insignificant at that time of the cycle. If you have pale skin and dark hair, like me (I'm naturally a brunette), then waxing is the way to go as there are no little "hairs" left under the skin to look like lots of little blackheads.

haha so funny u girls r cute just an aside--i used to be on the swim team in high school, and we had itty bitty cloth pieces to cover 'down there' too-- not only that, but if you were still wet from the pool when you started your next race (and ur supposed to warm up)--when you went down on the 'on your mark', a bunch of water pours out of 'down there'--as you STARE between your legs at the people timing you behind your near-naked butt!! seriously, so embarassing. deathly silence, water pours down from your butt-- beep! you're off 😉 ha lis

Lol Veena I think you just got unlucky! I've been waxing for years, and the first time I got it done i had done some research and was expecting it to hurt. I thought I'd cry, and scream, and squirm... I was so ready for extreme pain that when it actually came to the waxing I was like 'Is that IT!?' To be fair though, I did have a good waxer. I've been to many good waxers and many bad ones since then... you just have to find somebody who knows what they're doing. Because I've been waxing for so long, I find the hair grows back a lot slower, and even as the hair is growing back it is so sparse and fine you can't really see it from a distance (important for me!) - it grows back lighter and finer. If you shave in between I think it will ruin it, slicing the hair off and making it stronger, instead of pulling it out at the roots and making it finer. Since I went back to college last year, I became poor and started waxing myself. I use professional brazillian wax for sensitive areas and heat it up in a professional waxing pot. I bought the pot on sale, and after 2 waxes I had saved money by not doing it professionally. It's the type that you pull off with your fingers like they use in salons, not the ones with cloth strips or anything. The best tip I can give is to use baby powder (as yogabeachbabe said). I put more on in between each application, and it stops the wax from gripping onto your skin - it just grabs the hair. Rip it off against the hair as well, not in the same direction that it's growing. I wax my best friend as well, and she gets overexcited with the baby powder, tipping piles of it all over her and all over my house - she knows it stops the pain! Once you get used to doing it yourself it's really very easy, although if you don't do it properly you will get ingrown hairs. On a side note, when I go to a salon I don't mind getting a brazillian... but my beauty therapist refuses to let me leave until she's done my eyebrows, which makes me kick and scream and tantrum - they hurt a billion times more than anywhere else. So if you can put up with that then you'll be fine with a brazillian 😛
