Gloves

I have the worst calluses in the universe. they also blister. Art-of-dance sam .... uses gloves. She also sells them at her site. But I don't want gloves from the END OF THE EARTH. And I cannot for the life of me figure out how to convert monies. And I'm afraid my monsterhands wont fit into JR size and I wont be able to give them back. So I've been trying out TONS of different kinds of gloves. Nike all purpose fitness gloves ARE DOODY. Then they were doody. Oddly enough I just tried a pair of the gloves Sam sells, there's actually a lot of give in them, they were slightly too big on me if I'm honest but all upside down stuff was fab in them, I only noticed the give when I was the right way up. I'm not really a gloves type of person though, I like my spins too much

I've never tried gloves for poling, but for weight lifting and such these are the gloves I use: http://www.harbingerfitness.com/cgi-bin/6fyd-xxe5x.cgi?149&&sku I find they fit nice and close with no slipping and are very comfortable. If you like I could grab them and give them a test drive on a pole and let you know how they hold up 🙂 I bought mine at Dick's Sports and they weren't too expensive.

Somewhere someone said something about golfing gloves when I mentioned problems with my sweaty hands... haven't tried it, just thought I'd throw that in.

I almost got those white harbinger gloves yesterday- I tried one on in store.. but when I went to the car to proceed to drive home with them- I found the other didn't fit! Absolutely nuts, since they both had a L tag. ...Anyways, Natalie! PLEASE DO try them out on the pole. GLOVETEST. I'll check the golf section next- I heard bike and lifting were best.. but we'll see! This noname pair today is about the same as the last doodypair! I just want to be able to pole even after my blisters set in.

I have a pair of harbinger gloves, for weight training. They are a few years old and worn down, but I tried them on pole a few times. They worked ok, didn't give me super grip or anything, my hands alone, griped better, but they weren't impossible to use. You could use them to help with sweaty hand and calluses trouble. 😀

Ok, I tried out both my pairs of weight gloves on the pole in spinning and static mode. Here are my findings: The Harbinger Pro gloves (which I have in size medium) worked better than the GoFit women's glove (pink nylon sort of things with grippy bumps on the palm). I didn't like doing spins with them in static mode as the feeling of my fingers sticking to the metal more than my palms was very disconcerting to me, but for just holding on and for climbing/inverting, the Harbingers were only slightly less grippy than my hands, and I found the grip from my fingers and the grip of the suede palm was plenty to hold me up safely. The gloves didn't feel like they were loose or coming off either. The GoFit gloves felt more like they would slip off my hand, especially while trying to spin, as the rubber bumps stuck to the pole when my hand kept moving. Hope this helps 🙂 If the Harbinger Pro don't work for you they make several other "models" of glove, all of which I have heard good things about. I just prefer the minimalist coverage and soft leather on the pro model.

dumb question: have you tried exfoliating your calluses? It may remove the hard edge. I pumice mine monthly and use the MAC facial scrub weekly when doing my face. This seems to have inhibited calluses and my hands are still pretty soft. In turn, this may help blisters, For sweat, it depends on how bad the problem is. My first instinct would be to use Mitchum etc then wash that off just prior to poling (use good soap). If really bad, go see your Doctor, botox in the armpit can remove the sweat problem. It's how schelebs stop sweating at the Oscars etc. PVC gloves are great for spinning poles, but stop spinning on static poles. Ditto for rosin, which can be purchased from any musical instrument shop.
