getting into deathlay from aerial superman?

has anyone tried this before? i dont want to be the guinea pig and find out if it works or not but i think it could possibly if you could get a superman close enough to the ceiling. im curious because i want to try the death lay but i can't do an aerial shoulder mount yet like i see so many of your lovely ladies doing to get into the death lay and when i try to do a chopper i can never get close enough to the ceiling to press my feet against it. i'm finally really comfortable with the superman (and thanks to everyone who helped me with it when i was getting so mad about not being able to do it!!) and ive been doing aerial ones but i just wanted to see if this was possible and if so, does anyone have any videos or tutorials of it so i don't break my face trying it? thanks everyone! 😀

Over the years I've seen so many things that we never would have dreamed could be done...and new things all the time. However, I personally cannot see how you can get your hips close enough to the ceiling to get into the death lay position when your hand is behind your back supporting between your body and the pole.

Hi 🙂 Have you tried doing a shoulder mount from you aerial superman? Its not as hard as a full aerial shouldermount ..... thats how I get into the death lay. Best of luck with it 🙂

I actually tried practicing this yesterday but I'm either scared to slide my legs down out of the superman or my back isnt flexible enough to arch so i can reach back behind myself and grab the pole with both hands..or maybe both! I'll try working on SM from superman closer to the ground for a while and then maybe I can make it happen 😉

First the safest way to learn this is to test your hold close to the floor. Get into the super man position or slide down from a crucifix so that your close to the floor and put your hands on the floor in a push up position. Crossing your lower legs behind you have someone put pressure down on your heels as you cross your legs and see if you can lift your hands from the floor and hold on with your thighs. If I understand you're trying to get close enough to the ceiling in a superman pose to be able to lock your heels agains the ceiling and let go with your upper arm? I'm confused as to why you're trying to reach back with both arms to grab the pole? You would have to be able to hold your superman very low and close to your body to lessen the space between your hips and the ceiling.

Emp- she is trying to get into the shoulder mount from superman - thats what both arms behind are for. I think you're right on the superman straight to death lay -cant see that one working properly. GH- keep trying. If you are too close to the ground when you drop your legs you will be standing, but if you can drop your legs a bit and arch just enough to get your other arm behind and into position you will have it. Best of luck with it - its a great one to get 🙂

Are you sure? the title is "getting into deathlay from aerial superman" and she says she cannot do an aerial SM yet, and she says she thinks it could work if you get the superman close enough to the ceiling...

Sorry I confused things by suggesting she try the aerial shoulder mount from her superman - I agreed with you that I didnt think you could get straight into the deathlay from a superman....

no Poletickles you were right, I just posted the thread to see if a superman to death lay was possible and it seems like it isnt...Trena told me youve won competitions so you obviously know what youre talking about 😀 im going to try the superman to figurehead and then SM from there. thanks very much for the help!!!!

Which I believe is what I was saying too Glitterhips. 🙂 I haven't done any competitions but having taught at an advanced level for over 4 years it made sense. Of course there are a couple ways to get into the death lay without a SM but I'd never be willing to instruct someone on this sort of move over the internet unless I knew their skills better. Again, I do advise you practice from near the floor to make certain you have the leg grip secure before you go high to do it.

I always wondered if you could do a deathlay by doing an aerial invert real close to the ceiling straight into hip hold. Then, if your feet could press against the ceiling, could you just bring your back up into a superman-style without having to get the hand around behind your ass? ..never tried it.. has anybody else? Once I did a kind of pathetic deathlay by reverse caterpillar-ing up the pole until my feet were at the ceiling!!! 😂 That's as far as Im confident to go anyway because I'm afraid of the sliding metal piece up at the top of the x-pole.. imagine you did a deathlay with your thighs against that and then it decided to slide!!!! Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!! 😢

I've managed it from a chopper as close to the ceiling as I could get but my knees ended up bent a bit to get the hold. Think you get the best position from the shoulder mount. GH- I'll have to thank Trena for the compliments! 🙂 Empy-You are prob. a lot more qualified than me to be giving advice. Was just trying to help from my experience. But you are right you need to be really careful on this one and have a spotter with you when you are trying to master it

Deetron...I have seen it done that way from a hip hold and also from a reverse climb - both require a lot of core strength in order to make the transition smoothly and not look all discombobulated (sp?) going up and over. Same thing with the reverse climb and dropping the legs into a 90 degree angle at the top to get close. PoleTickles...thank you but I never compare myself to anyone unless I've have personally experienced their skills/abilities. Your advice was just as good! It is a lot of work to get the death lay from the chopper. This is an OLD vid from Robyn who now has a better attempt at it than this but this one was easier to find: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcYy2XkI72g When Jenyne was out she did a death lay on our Xpole and at the time we had more adjuster rod showing at the top (I since ordered a 100mm extension so there is very little extended) and she gripped the pole right at the joint of the locking nut. After she danced I commented on how that must have hurt but she still smiled as she did it and she showed me the nasty mark she had on the inside of her thigh from it! Smiling through the pain...that girl is amazing!

maybe climb and then invert "V", very close to the ceilling, then do the pike release the hands, bring the body straight by pushing with your hands maybe im wrong , but ill be your guinea pig lol ill try it

i did my first deathlay from an air invert, too as i felt saver this way. but i didn´t get as close as with a air shoulder mount. i´ll try it now from a superman and let you know if it worked

ok, it works from a superman ^^ but i think it´s not the best way to do it, because the bigger the distance to the ceiling is, the more dangerous it gets
