Front hook on 50mm

Took lessons in a great studio in stirling (Scotland) this week. Finally made huge progress, got front hook and back hook down and was just learning to go from one to the other! Come back home to my 50mm chrome and can't do a dammed thing. Not even a front hook! The studio had 45mm. Really regretting my rash desixion to buy now. Think I'll get it with the 50mm eventually? Or if your just not built for thicker poles will it never come?

Thicker poles requrie more hand strength so this is why it feels so much harder. Any size and finish can be worked with, it's just a matter of learning, adjusting or strengthening what you need to in order to work with that particular pole. I'm not sure how long you've been poling, but keep in mind that most spins are not beginner level because of the amount of strength needed in the hands, shoulders and core. Timing is also important when doing static spins so that might be part of the issue too. So short answer, don't give up hope, do some strength and conditioning for the hands, forearms and shoulders, focus on strength building pole work and you'll get those spins back soon! Think of it as having the best of both worlds. Both sizes have their pros and cons.

My pole is 50mm and it's only recently that I got to start occasionally playing with my friend's 45mm. I'm 5'4", so I don't have particularly long hands and I hear you on the challenges that come with 50mm (I mention height because tall people with longer hands have physics working in their favor). As Veena said, do your strength and conditioning and practice and it'll all come! Getting to alternate 50 and 45 is fun because hand stuff will feel easier on a 45 after you get used to a 50, however I conversely experience challenges with leg grips being harder on a 45 after being used to 50.

Rather embarrassingly - took my home pole off spin and could suddenly do front hook again.... Woops. . Hadn't even occurred to me that would be a problem. Woops... still harder than 45, but totally doable :) Veena I would love to take your lessons, but u have technical difficulties. We have a rural highland Internet connection- only place I have a chance of streaming is the wired connection pc that's in an entirely different location than my pole. We normally get round this by limited streaming by downloading to a USB stick we put in the telly (or buying dvds), but I don't think that's an option with your lessons is it?

We have too much content to put on DVD and do not allow downloads. Have you tried to watch video here? If you're able to watch user videos you'll be able to view lessons. I've known many members who had their computer in a different room from their pole and still found the lessons very helpful. You could give them a try for 3 days free using this code GET3FREE.
