Been trying for a while but still can't get myself into the right position since I haven't had any proper lessons I can't figure this one out.. Anyone have any tips or no of any tutorials that would help?

Yes I do! By flag lift I mean into brass monkey :)

It might be called a flag invert actually not lift

it's a tough one! For me, I start in the flag facing down and as I raise my straight leg I lower my head (which helps you "tip over") while at the lame time looking up to watch my leg hook into the brass monkey. Keep at it!
try to keep your hips facing the floor and not allow them to open toward the pole.

this is also called a flag flip by some people and its quite hard. be sure your lower arm/elbow is jammed into your side or tummy- it is essential to the lift. also start with your head below your hips if possible. its ok to stand on your tippy toes to achieve that.

Thanks platinum :) I tried last night I seemed to get alot closer then my usual attempts!
When i have tried to teach this move ive noticed that people tend to try to keep their body horizontal too much. Its like a press handstand where the hips have to come up before the legs. Try holding a flag handstand coming out of a brass monkey (can be done from a shoulder mount or dangerous brian) and lowering down slowly to the flag position. Working things going the opposite way helps build up more muscle to get it. Good luck :D

Here's a look at how I do the Flag invert. Head down, hips up, then legs open to V, then lift bending the bottom leg. By opening into a V with the legs, them bending the lower leg you'll make the lower body "lighter" for lifting. So the wider the V legs the easier you can make the lift. Also at a certain point you really use the arms pushing hard so be sure the top arm is gripping high enough into the arm pit. Thanks kittycat and veena! I think ur right about long limbs that's definitely me haha and I'm not so flexible in my v split! Trying to work on it but its a slow process!
You are not lying Veena hauling long legs up is tough. I also agree that you really have to push through the bottom arm far more than you think!
For whatever it's worth, I don't think I'll ever get this move. I've been working on it for over a year. I've taken it to several "pro" instructors who all gave me great tips but I still can't get up there. I'm starting to believe the flag lift is one of those moves that some people just pop up into it no problem and for other people....not so much lol. So if you really aren't getting it, forgive yourself...I'm accepting that my body does not want to do this one, or at least I'm trying to accept it.

Yeh some moves are not for everyone I hope that isn't the case for me I'd love to crack this one!
I love that you admit not all moves are for everyone! I have been on this one for WAY too long... someday I hope to get it but trying not to kill myself getting there...
I can do it with taking a swing, but not from strength alone. You don't need plenty of strength when you swing into it, just remember that you should swing the leg sideways, and not backwards. I loved the suggestion regarding going from Brass Monkey to flag slowly, it might help me understand what muscles to use to lift my butt over the shoulders, and sounds like a good strength exercise in general.

I still have not got this so trying the oposit brass monkey to flag hopefully working to get bk up in the end
Well I tried it yesterday, and I couldn't hold the pole in that position well enough to unhook my leg, I felt I was going to fall down and nothing in my hold gave me any contra. Any tips?

@MaryMinx you need to make sure your elbow of your bottom arm (you need to move it up the pole) is out ready to catch your body in order to hold the flag. It's a bit scary when coming down into it but just unhook one leg and slowly lower yourself onto your elbow of the bottom arm. I'll see if I can get my video thing working to post one up. My problem is flag lifting up, my body is too horizontal and I can't seem to move myself up vertically. I don't know if it's a strength issue or I'm a bit scared I might miss the pole and go straight over? :/ Does anyone know of any conditioning training to help lift the body vertical?

@MaryMinx Good luck! Hope it helps, if I discover something else that helps with the lift, I'll post it up! :) Oh, just came to me! another exercise I did inbetween was controlling the decent from a brass monkey to a flag or cross ankle release to flag. When I (sort of) got that, then I would try to lift back up to a brass monkey.
