I feel like a bum for asking about something so strange, but does anyone else's finger joints hurt when they're practicing??? It's mostly the top joint, actually - the one closest to the end of the finger. I have teeny tiny thin fingers so it might be just me... It usually stops hurting after I get warmed up, but it's just an odd feeling. I'm hoping it means my grip is getting better! 😀

i've never heard that of that before, but a while back someone had made a post about their knuckles hurting a while back. If they stop hurting after you're more warmed up, then maybe you could try warming them up before you start. Maybe moving them around a bit as if you were playing the piano? i bet once your fingers get stronger the joints will stop hurting too. hope someone else knows more about this!

My fingers used to hurt, but after practicing daily for a few weeks they got used to the pole. I was gripping so tightly that I was pulling the joints too much. Also, I make myself do finger exercises before I get on the pole so that they're stretched just like all my other muscles. Finally, the stronger you get and the more sure you are on your moves you're more confident of your grip so you don't grip so tight. One other thing you can do is get your doctor to write you a Rx for an anti-inflammatory. I had to go to the doctor because I thought I had carpal tunnel. It turns out that I had minor tendonitis. My doc prescribed a 6 day cycle of prednisone and gave me the anti-inflammatory. The pain is gone in the wrist and I my fingers are truly back to normal. Oh, one more thing: do you sleep with your fingers under your face or something like that where you stop the circulation? If so, that's also hurting your fingers when you pole. I made myself wear the splint for carpel tunnel for several nights so that I could re-train myself from sleeping on my hands. This has made a world of difference as well. Hope this helps.

I have had this problem, it will go away with time. Remember you put a LOT of stress on your hands in pole dance and your hands have tendons and muscles too. As you learn how hard to grip it will get better. Just be sure you are warming up your hands and wrist well before dancing, I have cold hands all the time so it seems to take forever to get them warm, but if I skip warming my hands I pay for it the next day. 😉

I've had this problem off and on ever since I started pole dancing... In the beginning it was a cramping pain, and I had to stop taking piano lessons, because I couldn't do that and pole! Eventually my fingers got stronger and used to the pole and that went away... Now I get it when I am practicing the cartwheel at times. It's more of a radiating pain from my wrist to my fingers. I always do wrist and finger stretches before poling or lifting weights because I have had problems with RSI (repetitive strain injury) in the past. I have found that doing these stretches before and after working out have helped lessen the pain tremendously!
