Facebook Is Against Positive Body Image

A few days ago we tried to promote the post in the image below on Facebook. They wouldn't post it claiming that it promoted a body image ideal. I contested their decision claiming that the post was about accepting who you were regardless of your shape. Facebook responded with the following email: ------------------------------------ Hi Christopher, Thanks for writing in. I'm here to help. Your ad was rejected because it violates the image policies of the Ad Guidelines. Images that you may not use include: -“Before and after” comparisons -Images of unexpected results -Images that show a type of body weight as being perfect or undesirable To resubmit your ad, edit the image from your ads manager. Learn more about our policies on health and fitness images: https://www.facebook.com/help/224866337548977/?ref=cr Thanks, Vanessa Facebook Ads Team Facebook ------------------------------------ I personally think that FB is being quite silly here. I wanted to give them money to promote a positive body image and they decided I was somehow immoral. What do you think?

It sounds to me like you got a robot to answer you, and that you need to press the issue further. I didn't see anything that didn't meet their guidelines- you are not posting "before and after" images, simply Veena teaching and being who she is, in exactly the shape she is. Unexpected results are certainly not present here, either. And finally, showing a certain type of body weight as being either perfect or undesireable is nothing like what you posted, and nothing like what you guys have EVER posted. So that's all a moot point. SO, I would push it. I don't think an actual human answered your inquiry, but just in case... respond, contest, push back.

wtf? they have a problem with that?! that's crazy. I cant believe they have a problem with that but they will allow videos of women fighting each other and tearing each others hair out and clothes off. yes, I have seen lots of crap like that on facebook. this makes me want to completely get rid of my facebook account.

And I get stupid ads on facebook telling me that I can go on some crazy diet and lose weight. Also, I see people who used to be my friends pushing sales for their herbalife shit. sorry for those of you who like that stuff, nothing wrong with that but I resent friends turning their fb page into a sales pitch riddled with pics of their insane abs. abs that you can not achieve with their wraps and protein shakes. Like so many pictures of abs that it is sickening. And so many ads of facebook for skinny pills. bullshit.

My understanding is that the original response may have been handled by a robot, however review responses such as the one I included are supposed to be handled by humans.

I saw that advertorial and was really moved and impressed by it. It's the flipping opposite if all those 'secrets of amazing abs' nonsense that pops up everywhere; have the clowns at FB actually looked at it???

Try responding again saying that she obviously didn't read the text or look at the actual ad. To be honest, at a cursory glance, it looks like it is an add for weight loss. If you don't read the text or actually view the add that is. Perhaps if you ask the lady to look closer at your ad, and ask what point it was breaking because it is, as you state, neither about weightloss, nor idealizing a certain weight. Rather it is talking about marks that many women are ashamed of and trying to tell people they shouldn't be ashamed. The reason it got called out was because the picture and the phrasing seems to imply at a very quick glance that you are advertising or selling either a weightloss article or something that would make the marks go away. Mind you, I said quick glance. Your ad does follow a lot of the visual and textual similarities to weightloss ads found throughout Facebook and the internet.

It is most likely the picture not the content. If the still picture at the beginning of the video was different, it probably would have not been flagged.

I saw this ad and video on FB. I guess I watched it before it was taken down? I thought the video was wonderful. I am a Veena fan and love the candid style and delivery of the information. Its perplexing that there is a problem with it considering all the garbage on FB that is perfectly fine.
