As title says.....Went to see doc today after it feeling and looking alot worse and worse - Just wondering if anyone has been through it or any advice while awaiting and referral! Luckily pole is 100% not affected unless they will need to break my leg to fix it :-/. My vid explains it better and shows my legs etc http://youtu.be/OXHPijvFUdg

What happened Meg? Is this something that has turned up for you in the latest time or is it something old getting worse?
Been like it since birth but its got a lot worse (foots tuning outwards more ever since i tore my hamstring) and now its causing my knee and ankle to be in pain rather then it just pointing out slightly and looking a bit funny. First stop is Physiotherapy to asses it more so just going from there. Waiting on a referral letter.... UK docs are law to themselves so could be waiting a while. Thank god pole is fine but my splits training ect may have to be put on hold as the issue causes me to not have correct form (i personally think) :-)
Oh, I see. Maybe your hamstrings can't support you enough now when they are not fine. I hope you can solve it!

I have absolutely zero experience with this, but I'm glad they've been able to figure out what's happening. And it's a small conciliation that you can still dance.

Thanks :-) Yep soon as i see the Physiotherapy we can go from there. Yeah Lina doc thinks that's why its got a lot worse very quickly as the hamstrings are extremely weak. He also pointed out i do have hyper extended knees (i thought it was just in my elbows - oddly i have always been able to get my legs behind my head too so it maybe in more place then I thought) also i walk flat footed which i find odd as i have a very high instep. so all in all my legs and feet look a bit funny .... but nothing at all life threatening so all good really :-)

Thank venna me too - I live in a little village so need my car to pop to a shop so surgery is a no go in my head atm - will be trying everything before then. Just have to wait for a referral letter - that could be a while with the good old uk nhs waiting times :-/

Hey, I was born with tibial torsion, but in-turned. (toes point towards the opposite ankle...literally) physio helps ALOT, so do orthopedic insoles in your shoes. , but the knee thing (surgery or not) will always be a bit of an issue. do you have issues with hip turn out as well?
Miss Taeo thats made me feels lots better - I was really thinking the physio would do nothing to help it but i will be going with a much more positive attitude! As far as im aware hip is all ok - never had any problems there, saying that i can do a ballet turn out have never stretched there before etc not sure if that has any relation (Lina may know?)... But i think if i had problems there it would have hurt during pregnancy and it never did nor after! But doc took one look moved my leg around for 30 seconds and told me he was going to refer me so not been checked by a physio yet :-)

glad you feel a bit more confident going into it! feel free to gimme a shout any time. i know i use to hate being the weird kid with leg and foot issues :oP super jealous of your turn out abilities!!
About the turn out...I'm no expert on the topic and my own turn out has never been anything to bragg about, but I think that the turn out can come from different parts, maybe the hip, the knee or the ankle. If you have this tibial torsion maybe yours mostly come from the knee part?

Turn out should be from the hips. torsion is below the knees (shin bone), but depending on severity, it can screw with the muscle structure not only with your knees, but up to your hips. Ballet positions when i was a kid was impossible. but also touching my toes pre-physio was extreamly painful because of muscle structure.

Yes, turn out is suppose to come from the hip, not the knee or ankle. :)
I know that it should, but I don't know if it does come from the hip for everyone.

There are people where it comes from the knee, but that's not the desired method of course.
I have no idea then - I can feel my hip turn out a lot when i do it but that just might be what happens? - i really have zero idea how to tell if its from the knees or hips... Atm i feel my leg getting worse everyday im in two minds to wait to see what the phsio says or try to find some hamstring strengthening techniques - only problems there is no one to tell me if it could in fact make it worse if i do the wrong exercises/form - Or strengthened the wrong bit making the other bit even weaker? Looked into it and it will take about a month for a letter to come (apparently) the nhs is falling apart! (at no fault of the wonderful over worked staff though) :-)
I think you should see someone specialized on sports injuries. They should be able to tell you which expercises would work or not. I mean, in addition to your doctor.
