Exiting elbowstand...gracefully

How can I exit back to the floor without clunking my heavy legs?!?

I like to wrap my legs around the pole and sit up out of it. You could also bow & arrow out by hooking one foot, using the other foot to push your body away from the pole. Then extend the free leg as close as you can to the ground. Then let go of the hooked foot and catch yourself with your extended foot. If you have the flexibility to touch your extended toe to the ground before unhooking the other foot, it looks really smooth. Again though, I prefer to sit up out of it.
I've been doing the bow and arrow...still clunky because I can't quite touch the toe to the floor. I'll work on it! Oh, I also had the brilliant idea of trying to V my legs out. BIG clunk! I also like to sit up out of it, but for this particular 'mood' I want to exit another way. Thanks!

I like to just straddle out of elbowstands (the reverse motion of the elbowstand press). If you can slide your feet you can slide them out so that you end up lying on the ground on your stomach. Or you can do that lunchbox pose that looks so nice with good back flexibility. Then you can slide your legs down (and the arms a bit away from the pole, unless you are really flexible^^) until you end up lying on the ground on your back.
I'm like RoseMay, I like to straddle out slowly. It takes some core strength and control, as well as hamstring flexibility will help. The act of lowering down slowly also is good practice and strengthening for being able to LIFT into the pose smoothly and slowly. :)

I have just learned the elbow stand and my instructor told me thats it's important to fold at the hip. Then it will be more controlled.
